That's an easy to understand thought. You're not on your own. I've had it and I'm sure many others have to. However, after time to reflect we come to terms with the fact that these cars are aging and therefore we just have to spend money on giving them some TLC.

Having come to terms with the need to rennovate the paint you will now be more prepared for what they are likely to find when the windscreen comes out. Mine didn't even have the bubbling you mention but when it came out, pieces of the screen aperture had corroded away.

But don't worry, with the right guys it can all be fixed. Mine has just come back from having that work done and a rusty rear quarter sawn off and replaced so that it is as good as new. It's all part of the ownership experience.

Tub is the front boot. Lift up the carpet and it's body colour. Also look underneath and it's body colour.

Yes you can pop in any time.
I have a lot of examples on my site too but obviously it's hard to tell in pics.

Thanks Steve - I know you're right it's just difficult to part with those kind of sums - then again I'd rather do it before I go through marriage and the associated costs that kind of life gives you! I'm just hoping I can have it all sorted by time our trip takes place!

Thanks for all the help guys. I've just been to see Specialist Paintwork in Reading.

So here is a run down of my paint issues:
Rust on rear wheel arches, bubbling on door sills, dent on bonnet, dent on driver's door, door check strap broken, paint run on roof, crack in paint on rear and front bumpers, road paint inside wheel arches and down the side, micro swirls everywhere, paint currently has no clear coat!, neighbour's cat scratches all over...

Had a great chat, really nice guy - took the time to talk me through it all and show me around. They're going to send me a quote by the end of the week!

I'm now hesitating about colour...

My thoughts are with:

Viper Green pearlescent, which will have a gold flak in the clear coat that will catch the sun. Matching speed-line centres callipers and possibly half cage? The 964 is my only car, albeit a weekend car - but is Viper too hard to live with? Also are all the differences between Viper and Signal green?

Also we love Viper as enthusiasts but most people think the colour is vulgar, no?

Aston Martin Onyx Black pearlescent with a chrome half cage? Or would that create to much glare/ ruin the rigidity? Also black is never perfect, do I really want to deal with again?

Or possibly Guards Red.

I just can't believe I may be doing one of these build threads soon... on the other hand would it not be more reasonable to sell the car and buy one that's perfect... ?

Here is my inspiration....

Either Viper or Mint green!!!

Claudia is as stripped as she will ever be at the moment, and I'm dying to just go ahead and re-do the entire car in Mint.

I just can't afford it.

only reason im not doing viper is that its my daily and same thoughts as you, would i be able to live with it every day, hence black grey (avatar)
a black thats not available from factory is a good idea though, something a bit special.

That green one above is my desktop pic, it may be a bit flash but I bet you won't care, everytime you walk up to it you'd hve enormous "how cool is that" smile on your face.

Meanwhile in the realworld you would be better off selling up and buying one someone else has just paid for all the work on, but hey that's not how we roll is it? Much to the disapointment of the WAGs.

Resale for a viper green one could be tricky, esp if the collars and cuffs don't match. So maybe a variation on black is a good call.

Btw the black that our cars came from factory with was primer+colour two pack and wouldn't have had a clear coat originally. In those days you only got clear over metalics.

Green. Not only striking, but unusual and looks superb too. :-)

As usual Alex - we're on the same wave length, I totally agree.

There's a part of me that thinks maybe Jim's C4 wide body would be a good purchase... engine rebuild and fresh paint... swap my bucket seats, suspension, roll bars (?), harnesses to it... and sell on my one....

Mind you it's left hand drive!
