Default Paint shop needed!

I go out to the car and notice there is white rubber paint all inside the wheel arches and down the side of the car...

It seems whoever painted road markings in my area recently didn't wait for it to dry...

No problem I think... It won't wash off with hot water and soap. Using my finger nail I manage to scrape some of it off... leaving scratches on the paint work... rather than continue and wreck the paint I've left it...

The car had a respray about 8 years ago (previous owner) it was shoddily done... by the time it got to me there were bubbles in the paint by the rear and front windscreen - which I had fixed, the paint had run in some places, the paint just doesn't pop, is very often dull, and now there are swirl marks all over...

Over time I've had the paint repaired on the cheap... with shoddy results that fellow rennlister Darren likes to point out (Yes his car is beautiful!) !

I think this is the last straw... I'm gonna respray the car... I was saving for a motorbike but this has to be a priority. The bike will have to wait

So if people would like to chime in with some highly recommended body shop/ painter guys I'd be extremely appreciative... I've had some bad body shops in the past

All in all I'm pretty depressed and don't want to even look at the car atm.

Preferably a shop in South England/ London area.

Darren, Tony who did you guys use?

Ouch. Had that happen once on a car I was about to sell. It was a complete nightmare to remove. Didn't try a clay bar - this was before they became popular - perhaps that might do it, for now at least.

what a pita!

I have a real mental block when it comes to getting cars painted. I've tried it myself with some mixed results so I have a lot of respect those that do it well - i also know what a **** up it can be if you cut corners.

I've been looking for a bodyshop on and off since I got my car. The ones that were top of my list were:
911 body shop wembley who I think are still used by Jaz
Langley Autocraft are used by JZ Machtech
Specialised Paintwork Reading used by GT One

Darren suggested www.355international.com/dunsfold.html to me last summer and I've still not got in touch with them yet.

Its interesting how many of the build threads you see, where the body work is done by a "mate" who's just opened a bodyshop. Which shows you don't necessarily need to go to one of the big names in the "porsche scene".

I've used Townley before. They're in Dartford, just off the A2 before the tunnel. I had a rear wing repaired and painted and was very happy with their work and customer service. My local IPC recommended them.

the slightly depressing bit is that whoever you go with, from most people's experience, it seems to cost more that you thought and take longer than you thought. BUT the same goes for building houses, writing software, and I bet, making films

Frank, it's always in light hearted jest, one day I'll show you round my car, and point out every imperfection (and believe me there are many)

As Alex already mentioned, i used 355 International, based at Dunsfold. If you want to visit them to have a look round for yourself, see the quality of work they do, and get an estimate, I'll happily take you down there, and introduce you. I can't guarantee you'll get a massive discount, but i would hope they would be good to you.

They are about 15 mins from The Parrot, to give you some idea of they're location, and they are always around on Saturday mornings. Let me know if you want to take a look.

Frank,

In the mean-time to get rid of that paint try the clay bar and also paint cleaner / polish or a tar remover.

Have a look on detailing-world forum for ideas on safe removal of paint

Chris

Edit - You'd also be amazed at corective polishing. Our paints can be brightened and swirls / scratches etc removed with a machine polisher.

If you were closer i'd give you a go of mine

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Iv'e given Craig at GT One a call - he's sorting me with a quote from Specialised paintwork.

I like the idea of 911 Bodyshop, but they have a long waiting list and prices are dear. Besides Chris is quite forgetful about getting back with quotes...

Either way I'm gonna keep calling around for quotes and such... watch this space...

I wonder, would a colour change would be that much more expensive?

I wonder whether I'll chicken out and just have the problem areas done... or will I be just chasing my own tail?

PS. Thanks for the tips John and Chris, I'll find myself a clay bar and read some forums...

Don't show me your imperfections - I like your car too much!

Thanks mate! Yup can I take you up on the offer, let's go down one Saturday PM me to organise?

Colour change wouldn't be too much more. Just need to add inner wheel arches front tub inside and out and the engine bay.
I'm doing a colour change on mine (starting to strip it next week)
Was in the same predicament as you. Car needs a repaint, while I'm there change the colour and make it awesome

Excuse the rookie question but what is a 'front tub' ? Could I come and visit your shop/ see examples of your work and get a quote?

Cheers,
