Default Daytime running light relay?

California car coming in to Canada. Everything newer that 1989 has to have compliant daytime running lights up here. Has anyone installed the relay to convert existing headlights to run as drl's?
Please and thanks.

It should be an easy fix unless your Cali car didn't have the wiring to the relay plug. It will operate the front fogs if you plug into socket R63 in front fuse
box.

Search is your friend - lots of info here.

I thought it was 91 and newer, anyway you can also borrow the horn relay(it is the same as the DRL relay)to get you thru inspection right away, and order the part later.

If the car is older than 15 yrs then it doesn't need the DRL's as per the RIV import rules. Only imported cars newer than 15 years NEED the DRL's, child safety tethers, etc... (so if it's a 1997 model 964 )
Now, the out of province inspection requirements in BC might be different but one would assume that federal reg's outweigh provincial.

BTW...I was bounced around the Provincial Motor Safety Branch a couple of times before connecting with quite a helpful inspector - according to him vehicles manufactured after Dec 1989 req to DLRs.

So what do you get at the end of the day? In my Canadian 91 I have the fog lights as my DRL. In your case you end up with the headlight as yours?

Where was this inspector from? You might want to also check with Canadian Tire Or Western Bus as they are your local choices for the Federal inspection. I see that Scan is listed as an ICBC inspector. Not sure where you plan on getting your car serviced but I use these guys and they have been great to me. Give James there a call and ask him about this.

Oh i see, that is why my 1990 model C4 did not require DRL since it was manufactured before Dec 89. But i decided to have it anyway for my own safety. I use the fog lights as DRL.

So i take it in BC even if a vehicle doesn't require the federal RIV you still require the DRL's. As all 964's are now more than 15 years old you're NOT required to shell out for the Federal RIV fee and Federal inspection.

When i imported my first C4 it was 15 yrs and 2 months old - and i had to explain to the customs agent that it didn't require RIV (I actually had to pull up the web page on his computer to prove it to him).

The ICBC website doesn't actually have alot of useful info in this regard (I used to be a BC resident and didn't find them useful in person either).

(FWIW, I drive with either my headlights or foglights on all the time anyway - in the land of Alberta everyone seems to drive really big pickups and i do want to be seen!)

We do need the DRL's. Car arrived from Cali yesterday and got through the border with no fuss. Will run thru the Provincial inspection today and then wait for the snow to melt. thanks for the feedback.

Interesting, I'm in BC and my car ('91) is from Japan. It was imported and put through inspection by the PO. No daytime lights.
