Default clutch hydraulic fluid

Hey guys, I have a '91, C4, 911 Carrera. It has sat for several months and it appears that some brake fluid has leaked. Its my understanding that the fluid reservoir is under the hood on the drivers side and that it shares fluid with the brake system. Can I merely open the reservoir tank and add fluid or is it a closed system? Many thanks, TJN/VETTEKILLER

Yes, its under the hood on the driver's side. You can open it up and add fluid. On a C4, the brakes, the clutch slave cylinder, and the all wheel drive PDAS system share this same reservoir of brake fluid. I just posted a C4 brake bleed post where you can see a picture of its location for left hand drive cars.

Although please first identify the source of the leak, I wouldn't want this to be in your brake system and cause a brake failure down the road.

tjn1 ... also note that there is an overflow tube from the brake fluid reservoir that goes down to a spot behind the driver's side front tire. If the reservoir is overfilled, fluid will leak out there and be visible. When bleeding the brake system, you need to pinch off this overflow tube first. Where are you seeing the leaking brake fluid?

Richard, I see fluid in the drip pan under the engine. Thanks, TJN
