So as an example 9.5ET44 vs 10ET40 (as per on my car):
Backspace (inside):
9.5ET44 = 178mm
10ET40 = 180
So my wheel is 2mm closer to the oil line.
Frontspace (outside):
9.5ET44 = 241mm wheel width - 178mm backspace = 63mm
10ET40 = 254mm wheel width - 180mm backspace = 74mm
So my wheel is 11mm further outwards towards the guard/fender.
So if the guy above with 9.5ET44 is 'snug' against the oil pipe, then subject to tyres or perhaps he doesn't have the flattened oil pipe, because my wheel is 2mm closer to the oil pipe and I still have heaps of clearance .. about 5mm. Or perhaps is defining his 7mm clearance as snug.
The other thing to note is that the 10ET44 would give you 3mm clearance to the oil line.
I actually think my 10ET40 is perfect because you can roll the guard a few mm and have it perfect .... I'm going to revise my original recommendation from 10ET44-46 and update it ...
- 10ET40-43 - with full neg camber -2 deg
- 10ET43-45 - with less neg camber.

The line is flatened. Note that these are BFG R1 DOT slicks, large for their nominal size and very square shouldered. Camber is very close to 3*.
Snug means very slight rub without 3mm spacer.

Sml, I managed to max out camber and get same as Thomas 2.3 in rear. You'll need adjustable rear spring plates to go more.
