No, I'm not sure at all. I originally thought Paul Stephens did their own engine work, I know Ben said his car had gone back to them for the engine build. Do they sub-contract to Autostrasse then?

Things may have changed, as I haven't been there this year, but its what I saw and was told by the proprietors.

The verdict from the MOT tester is that any 964 manufactured before MY1992 still does not need a cat to pass... that's a relief.
A belated reply to the other comments below - PS does subcontract parts of the work in building its cars (including engine builds and paint), and has specialists come in to his shop for installation of items like the dash leather, stereos etc. PS does give a warranty with the new-build cars though, I think it is two years for the whole car, so you just deal with him if something goes wrong.
As to build quality of the PS cars, I own or have owned a number of cars including a Jaguar XF, an Audi TT and a Range Rover as well as a 993, a 996 and a 997, and my PS car is put together as well as or better than any of them. I can't truly speak for any car other than my own, but I've seen other PS cars in the shop at various times and they all seemed to be of a similar quality, except for an early car that was traded back in, but the owner had parked it on the street in London for five years so it looked a bit worn...

Yep, I agree with this: The wording is that for petrol engined cars a Cat must be present "On all vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test..."
And the cut-off for Emissions Testing is that your car was "first used* on or after 1st August 1992". (Apart from a few vehicles exempted until 1/08/95).
* I assume they use date of registration for this.
So, good news for us de-catted pre 1/8/92'ers;
but there are quite a few 964's that will be caught out
HID's on a 964 are a definate Fail too.
- they now need to comply with self leveling.
...unless you know Fuch's MOT man

The other thing that I've just spotted on the new regs is that, if fitted, the ABS must be working and will be tested. Mine had hardly ever worked properly and completely failed last year. It's all fixed now (it needed the ABS pump changed) but I saw at least two 964s at Curborough with non-working ABS.

Thanks for the ABS info, Steve, I hadn't seen that bit!
My ABS is tempermental: I've cleaned up the battery/terminals & keep meaning to clean up the sensors & swap out the relay with one from a working car to see if that could be a cheap fix....must get it done before September!

the "working ABS" but is a bit of a grey area because they dont do a road test so they just check the lamp comes on and then goes out again to indicate "no faults" - as we know that doesn't mean munch on a 964.

I agree Alex. I think and hope we should be OK because of the tests you mention. The last thing we want is them ragging our cars to see if the ABS cuts in!
