Default Orange 964

[IMG][/IMG]I bought my 964 a little over a year ago, with a blown engine, I was well aware of the engine, and had been looking for another project 964 as I had stupidly sold my last one. The engine has now been rebuilt, I have had the cases gas flowed, Cup cams fitted and a live remap, it now produces a healthy 315 BHP. RS fly wheel and Helix comp clutch make the car such fun to drive, it really fly’s. I have had a KAAZ LSD fitted which took a bit of setting up but after some good advice works well. The Porsche short shift kit makes the gear stick taller and the gear selection very slick. RS engine mounts makes the car feel very tight, I feel the engine through the seat.
The suspension is KW club sport with RS mono ball front top mounts which were fun to fit and required some top hat nuts making and the RS nut modifying as 9M did recently, the rears come with their own mounts. All the suspension was re-bushed using Power-flex nylon bushes. The ARBs are RS adjustable, I found the H&R 26mm rear just too stiff. I have the GT2 alloy upright and tie rods to go on, so I am looking forward to the feel of the steering after that.
The brakes are 993 turbo front and RS rear, with the standard bigger 993 master cylinder. I had fun and games trying to get the right feel in the brakes and tried the different bias valves, I settled on the 55. I am thinking about trying to fit the boost system as the RS, but not too sure it will be worth it as the brakes are now fantastic.
The object of the rebuild was to make a fast hill-climb and sprint car. I have set out to remove as much weight as possible but keep the car civilised so I could drive to and from events. I have removed all the excess weight, starting at the front the first to go was the huge screen wash bottle all pipe work and headlamp washers, the alloy bumper was treated to a little bit of reducing. I have a carbon bonnet, I still don’t know whether to paint it or not, light weight battery and RS kill switch. The doors have had the side impact beams removed, the electric mirrors, locking and windows removed, they are all manual. The sunroof has been removed and a very clever vintage car restorer made a panel and welded it in it was then lead loaded as I didn’t want any body filler which may have cracked!! The rear side windows are Lexan and the rear screen is a very thin Cup one with no heating element or wash wipe hole as that’s gone to. The rear engine lid is fibreglass and weighs in at 2.5 kg. The rear alloy bumper bar has had the same treatment as the front. The A/C pump and all pipe work has been removed, the rear blower has been removed and a Cup by-pass pipe fitted.
The interior of the car has had all sound deadening removed and will have a very thin light weight carpet covering. The seats are Pole Positions with the South Bound mounts as these get the seats low in the car. The door cards are RS type with the handles and lock pulls. The radio and all speakers have been removed and a blanking plate fitted. I will remove all redundant switch gear as I get round to it. I have a full 6 point cage bolted in. Finally, I have had the car painted in GT3 RS Orange as I love this colour, I think it suites this car perfectly.

Nice spec, sounds more or less like mine but you have probably removed a few kilos more.

Paint the hood in orange, unpainted is too much Fast & furious!

And finally, more pics!!!!

Great write-up with all your upgrades succinctly outlined!

I've always loved orange 911s. What particular orange is your car painted, Phoenix?

Anybody else want to post pics of their orange Porsches? There's a shade of orange that's a tad more yellow-beigy than what's pictured above that I really like but I don't know if it's considered signal orange or what...I've seen it on older 911s and have always wondered which orange it was.

Not sure about the wheels, I have a set of Cup 1's I think I will get them painted gloss black. I have Carrera side decals to go on they are in gloss black so should look ok.

Definitely Bad. Bad-***. Love the orange. Agree - paint the hood.
Great project.
