Default Suspension options for early build 964?

What are the best choices currently available to update the suspension on a 1990 964 with a build date of 11 OKT 89?

The car will see an occasional PCA DE/Auto cross but will mainly be used as a daily driver. I'm looking to replace the worn out suspension with something very firm, and to lower the car to ROW or possibly RS ride height. (Is RS height too low for a daily driver?)

From what I gather, the MO30 springs will not work on this car. Prior to learning that I was leaning toward a Bilstein HD/M030 set up.

Thanks!

Can't do much better than the KW V3 kit if it's a mostly roadcar w/some track work IMHO. That's what I landed on and I love my setup

For the $$, I can't disagree with Shamus as the PSS10 are now almost a grand more.

Shamus, have you found yourself no longer adjusting the shocks? i.e. set and forget, or do you have a road set and a track set, or do you go so far as to adjust for different track conditions?

I ask, because with my (soon to go) PSS10s, I found a setting (essentialy full on) mid-summer and haven't altered at all.

Fwiw, I went with a less expensive setup, Bilstein hd and eibach springs, and though I like them better than the stock setup, the rebound on the shocks is a bit of a mismatch to the springs, and not having the option to adjust has been a bit of a drag. Now wishing I had spent the money on a better matched set, and would be nice to have a hard/soft setting adjustment as well, just for fun.

I wonder if the Bilstein HD and H&R set-up would offer a noticeable improvement. It seems many are happy with this set-up. I'd really love the V3 or PSS10 set-up but can't really justify $3-4K for almost entirely street use.

I'm too am considering a suspension upgrade for my early 964 C4. I can get adjustable Konis for the front, but not for the rear.

Has anyone tried Konis front + Bilstein rear??

Second question. Two questions actually. I'm also considering a roll bar. I know a 21 mm roll bar is recommended for the rear.

Does the stock C2 21 mm roll bar fit the C4?

Lastly, has anyone tried the HR 24 mm fr/26 mm rr anti-roll bars?? What do these bars do to the ride quality.

Thanks much,

Dan

Gert offers this set up: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p64017.htm

P64 Bilstein HD Shocks and H&R springs
The Bilstein B6, also called HD shocks are an excellent alternative for the factory shocks. This is a package of 4 shocks and 4 springs.
Bilstein shocks come with a lifetime warranty .
This setup of Bilstein B6 and H&R springs lowers the car 30-50mm.
The rear shocks are available for the older or newer style.
(specify on order).

On Sale :
Price : 995 Euro. Dollar Conversion
The front and rear HD shocks are threaded.
Also available : Bilstein HD shocks and H&R lowering springs.

The Front Protection Bar is 90 Euro extra when ordered with this suspension package.
With shipping to the US this would be $1400 from Gert in Germany. I'm not sure what it would cost for installation.

Installed Bilstein HDs with H&R reds on our 1990 C2 with build date 21 OKT '89.

Springs lowered the C2 35mm at each corner and provide a much firmer ride.

Thanks for your post! Are the H&R reds stiffer than the greens? Could you please post a photo showing your ride height?

I was leaning towards the greens vs. the reds on my C4 because I thought that would be better for street. However, the C4 front springs are stiffer from the factory because of the additional weight on the front so I was wondering if the reds might work better. On that note, I was also wondering what it would be like with red on the front and green on the back

"Are the H&R reds stiffer than the greens?" Yes, the H&R Reds' spring rate start at about where the more progressive H&R Greens top out.
Here's a chart I found when I was considering the suspension upgrade, sorry I don't remember the source or I would give credit:

There have been only a few times, when on rough street roads, where I would have preferred the softer Greens, otherwise the Reds are ideal IMHO for the sports car feel & handling. I selected 35mm lower settings from stock US ride-height at each corner, and the springs allow lower.

I don't have the best pictures perspective-wise to show the ride height, these two aren't bad:

As far as I know the 21mm bar fits a C4 no problem

I;ve got H & Rs on my C4, car corners flatter, ride isnt affected in any negative way, at least it doesnt feel so to me anyway (running standard shocks with lowered springs)
