I managed to get the joint back together using the 996 technique. Unfortunately it has a click, which I suspected was the original problem. I've ordered a new inner CV joint.

Just a reality check. The new axle nuts are a lot less solid than the originals. Are there multiple versions out there? These seem to be a type where you would use a cotter pin.

I've just checked my CV joint order and realised I have ordered two REAR inners part number 951 332 030 00 whereas I wanted FRONT inners.

PET has the front inner part as 964 349 938 00. Unlike the rear inners there doesn't appear to be an aftermarket option so the price sky rockets. For the prices quoted I might as well buy a whole new driveshaft. Has anyone found an aftermarket front inner CV joint replacement?

Spokes answered my query. The C4 uses different axle nuts on the front and rear axles.

The new ones I have are rear axle nuts. The front axle nuts are 99909001001 and cost 3 times the price of the rear axle nuts.

I did my front axles a while ago and also found out the new nuts are different. I heard you can still get the original sized nuts, but couldn't find them myself. Someone mentioned that the new (shot type) nuts are meant to be used in pairs like on RS cars. I used them as singles and checked them several times since then. No issues.

Thanks!

For the boots the GKN ones have the Porsche part number on the boot! They are the same quality. But that was only in the kit with the inner cover etc. Good for all except rear outers?

For the boots I recommend changing to the VAG splined ones, same length and cheap and much better drive for the long socket.

I did all mine from the gearbox ends, never removed the axle nuts.

Just checked with a retired Porsche mechanic and he knew of no after market front C4 inner CV joint. Given the Porsche CV kit is $$$ I went for a new driveshaft at $$$. Part number is 96434903823. Fingers crossed the seller can actually get some. I've learned the hard way that some items are out of stock worldwide.

Rear inner CVs have arrived. They are surprisingly tight. Maybe grease will loosen them up. It makes me wonder if my fronts are that bad. In any case I have a new driveshaft on the way.

Car is back on the road, with its original driveshaft. I will recheck everything tonight but so far it seems good except the other side axle nut I loosened in anticipation of doing that side won't accept full torque. I have a new nut on the way.
