Default Sticking door handle trigger

Sometimes when I open a door, the trigger doesn't spring back. Anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

Thanks Clinchy. I've done that too but this is about the third time now so wonder if there's some adjustment I need to do on the mechanism?

I took the door handles off a while ago and gave them a thorough clean but that hasn't fixed the issue either.

I used GT85, which has got PTFE in it; better lubricant than WD40. Will bring some with me to Curborough!

The problem is possibly the WD40, very poor product imo, i know it has a million uses but on external hinges locks etc it isn't up to it, isn't it only a Water Dispersant anyway (hence the WD)? Spray grease would be better as it runs like a liquid at first, then sets to a grease, so it will coat and lubricate the parts needed for a long time.

Try that DuPont spray; get it at Home Depot. It's aces on chains, starts wet and then dries a little more pastey.

Cheers guys, sounds like taking off the handles again, cleaning and proper lubricating will do it. Last time I just cleaned them.

Yeah, you gotta lube them; there's quite a bit of metal sliding on metal in there.

My drivers one sticks also, but strangely only when the door is locked.

So interesting to hear back if the clean and lube solves it.

Take the door panels off, take the plastic mechanism protectors inside the door off and spray the hell out of it with white grease.

Water makes you slide on the floor... Yet I have found out through many experiences it is not a lubricant WD is not a lubricant either.

So, took one of the handles off today. This pic shows how the trigger gets stuck and the pin hasn't returned and therefore it's a problem with the handle itself:

After much cleaning with carb cleaner, q-tips and cocktail sticks to remove as much grime as possible, I gave it a good blast with chain grease spray and it's back to working as normal:

For good measure I gave the locking mechanism itself a good spraying with grease:
