I tried to get my personal plate for my car as the following
NUM 964 ....(mine is the number 964th 964 built) rejected...they said that plate is internal use only
THE 964 ...also rejected
so I said hell with it and tried
1GALLON ..approved finally....yay 1 gallon is gonna be my plate (for those that miss the point 1 gallon is 3.8 liters)![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

Most States offer web sites to test & see if specific vanity plate are available.
I had a hard time getting mine with the State of Illinois. They said your plate can't end in an O because law enforcement won't know if it is a 0 (zero) or a letter.
I explained to them what the plate meant, and further explained that on a plate, the 0 and the O are the exact same, and it was a mute point.
I am also a chemist, by education, so my plate plays on that too, plus I don't drive in the rain!

How does the personal plate system work in the US guys? Do you select what you'd like and they tell you if you can have it or if its available?
In the UK the choices arent as good. We either buy plates off the DVLA (government) website when they are new or 2nd hand, or buy 2nd hand ones from dealers or the public.

Some States you can inter-mix numbers with letters (CA), others not. Some plates can have 6 numbers/letters, while others allow 7 or 8. It's all over the board.

I don't have a personalized plate, but I've been considering some combination of NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness). That's what I like about my car. Full-on assault of the senses.
911 NVH
Voll NVH (Voll=German word for full)
Full NVH
