Wonderful! I'm glad I could help You.
From my experience: Replace flat gasket only. Do not mount o-ring (part no 999 707 115 40) because when you screw fuel level sensor o-ring deforms and ceases to be a tight connection. And this can cause the fuel pouring from the tank. The best way is to use a different seal. Maybe some Loctite? Good luck!

The O-ring is the only seal I see in PET. Is the seal you replaced a Porsche part, or did you find an alternate source?

Thanks!

Correct observation. First I bought the O-ring, and mounted him unnecessarily, because nothing helped, and led only to a fuel spill in the trunk because of a leak. Do not buy this O-ring is needed. Good screwing the sensor is sufficient, and if they have filled a sealing paste it already is the best thing you could do.

According to PET there is no gasket between the fuel sender and the fuel tank so I understand that you just tighten the fuel sender unit and that removed the fuel odor. Is that it?

FWIW, I just tried to tighten my sender. Got maybe 1/8th turn on it (being generous); dunno if that's enough to do any good, and won't know for a while in that it's cold here now and I haven't had any fuel smell issues since the summer faded. I will say that my findings matched pettelli's: I could smell fuel from the sender area.

I'll try it with Hylomar in the spring if the issue returns.

Whole story: In the trunk smelled fuel. I replaced a lot of different elements, which absorbed a lot of money, and the smell of fuel and so has not disappeared. I smelled with my nose so all connection with the tank like a dog at the airport and found out that the smell of fuel coming from the sensor. I tighten it harder for the tank. And the smell is gone for good. Then I wanted to improve everything and I put the o-ring (this o-ring I bought a few weeks earlier) ... and of course everything broke down because fuel spilled in the trunk.

Watch out! Since pulling the fuel level sensor, you draw it along with fuel and it can spill all over the tank and the trunk. And then stinks terribly. Best to do it at a small level of fuel in the tank.
Remember, always slowly ejecting ... sensor ... from the tank ... to not spill fuel. Good luck...

Call me crazy, but I don't mind the fuel smell so much. It gives such an authentic race car vibe.

Do you have a source for a 44 x 4 mm flat, fuel resistant gasket? Please share.

Unfortunately I dont have. In my car I did not use anything. Only tighten the sensor. Nothing more. And it works.

Factory specs torque it to 30Nm (22 ft-lb) and always replace the o-ring...

I placed an order at automotion.com for both a sender and new gasket. It shows in the picture a "flat" gasket vs the o-ring in the PET. Both parts are on backorder. We'll see what shows up. I also went to dealer to just pick up an o-ring and they didn't have one in stock and wanted $8 for it. automotion was $2 Sending unit was $129 (discounted) Pelican parts $142 dealer $180 Not sure if it will fix the issue but I definately can smell fuel on the top of the unit.
