Hi All,

Im after a MAF conversion and a set of headers for my 964. Im doing a rebuild over the winter and am hoping to to install these in the process. Not sure if I can get them in the UK and if not who supplies them in the US.

Cheers

A hearty British welcome to you Dave after the frosty Italian one!

MAF kits have a mixed reception on here I think. I have often thought of one but after reading reviews and posts by others I usually change my mind again! On the 964, it seems a good chip, cat by pass and primary or secondary exhaust by pass get the best gains for your money. I can personally recommend the Steve Wong chip by 911chips.

If you're still keen though I think ninemeister and promax do them in the UK.

No Problems- Sorry,
My names Dave and Ive got a C2 964 1990 that Im hoping to rebuild over the winter. Was just considering my options with regard to a power hike and the consensus has been to go for a MAF hot film conversion and a set of headers on a freshly rebuilt engine with a SW chip to sort the idle issues out that I have currently with a LW RS clutch conversion fitted.

This is the second 911 that Ive owned - the first being a Guards red Super sport 3.2. The other forum i used to use and occasionally browse are IB.com. Theyre very friendly and forthcoming on there.

New to this forum and keep getting lost in the search function hoping there would be some links)

Chow,

Dave

Hi Dave,

A bit late I know, but having first hand experience of MAF kits on the 964, I thought my experience might be useful to you.

I personally would recommend sticking with the original AFM set-up and focus on getting a good rebuild (i.e. get all the funamentals spot on first). There are some good chip (EPROM) solutions for the 964 DME; other than that I would keep the car as is and retain it's value.

ProMAX used to sell MAF kits for 964 and other older Porsche models; but they were only effective on US cars and other markets where the O2/Lambda and Cat set-up was mandatory. The MAF solution was generally ineffective on normally aspirated UK cars (UK models without O2 sensor) and were withdrawn from sale for that reason (by ProMAX).

Regards,
Andrew

Default maf shmaf

told you Dave, as said above by someone in the know, don't bother with the maf. get it up to wayne when you've done the rebuild for a remap, he'll tell you the same too.........your car's plenty fast enough anyway, you're just being greedy.

p.s was at goodwood yesterday but forgot my phone

Were all 964 not delivered with Lambda etc then?

Mine certainly was (Jan 90 car) and whilst I know that lots have been removed the majority would have had them originally surely

My 1990 C2 definitely has an O2 sensor on a new Cat Bypass.

Can't comment on the rest of this topic, as i have no idea

I know it's opening up a can worms again but my car is old, never rebuilt, blows smoke under load and is stock pretty much other than my MAF conversion and it dynoes at 275 and pulls like a freight train! Just ask Darren(HEV964)!!

In my opinion the maf works, just don't ask me how!!

Original UK 1990 models had closed loop O2, but many were removed in later years with exhaust upgrades etc. The MAF solution we sold worked on some cars, but didn't work on others. The chip upgrade was generally a more effective upgrade. The ProMAX MAF solutions were being fitted 5 years ago when the cars were 16 years old. Other MAF solutions may also have worked better (supplied by others).

Andrew
