Tokyo bound

Tokyo bound
Well, we are off to live in Tokyo for a few years which is enormously exciting but tinged with a little bit of worry. I'll miss and worry about my 964 back home! Since learning that we are going to Tokyo I sold my daily driver and am using my 964 C2 daily. Oh how I have bonded with this car.... which makes it a bitter pill leaving it behind.
Anyway I'm looking for 2 bits of advice.
1. Tips for storing cars? I'm thinking of putting it in a carcoon with a trickle charger in the hope I will be able to drive it straight out of the garage on visits home. Any good tips?
2. I am definetly going to need a Porsche fix in Tokyo. I may even source a minty 964/993 to bring home when the time comes. Anyone know the Tokyo Porsche scene? Where to find 964's and 993's? Who are the truly great specialists? Clubs, drives and meets? Would be good to know...
cheers all
Carl.

cool. Like the UK, Japan is 964 central, because both economies crashed in 1992-1993, which means they were living in rarefied air and buying porsches like crazy in 1989-1992, coinciding with 964 production.
there are Rennlist members who live in Japan, Raspberry Roadster, etc.
storage: if you're gone 2 yrs, just disconnect the battery, overinflate the tires or rest on tire savers, and make sure it's in a dry storage space. maybe do some prep work with oil in the motor and wax on the body, that sort of thing. i'm sure others can add more. Each time you come home, just borrow some jumper cables. Takes 5 mins.
Japan/Tokyo is a wonder, enjoy it !

Great news about your extended stay in Tokyo...traveling aboard can be so personally rewarding. New stimuli brings growth! You'll miss your 64.
Here's a couple Japanese Stealership websites whose inventory I occasionally check. Checkout the 964 colors!
http://www.autosports.jp/stock.html (lots of colorful 964s)

Loving the F1GTR, NSXr, Skyline and 240Z at Bingo cars. Mmmmm
The porsche on offer look to be in exceptional condition. Prices a bit stiff at the moment given the strength of the yen though.
looks like there is going to be plenty of Porsche action after all. Thanks!!!

Jim, it's not really a viable option. Import/Export costs and the fact that my car would struggle with their Shaken test (and associated high costs) means it's not worth thinking about. It's a keeper anyway so i'll leave it at home.

welcome to shake heaven.....
likely best source of pricing for 964's/993's is here.......
there are 3 pages of 964's.
http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/sea...S001&YMAX=1989
if you have a problem with the link or opening listings let me know.
....some things i recommend (have been here for better part of past 15yrs both on & off expat packages & as car owner, bmw's & alfas & not):
-don't rush to buy a car, its actually in tokyo the last thing you need (best/cheapest/safest public transport system in the world) & driving in tokyo is not anything like you may have experienced before.
-if you are coming in on expat package make sure it includes parking, or the home you rent has a parking spot. parking costs are high here (in our building.....plus equivalent of $600/mo).
-964/993 ownership costs are high (shak-ken does not permit oil leaks or seepage) so talk to a 964 pro shop (good one in yokohama) before you buy to understand what you will be facing.
-have japanese speaker for negotiating.....gaijin (gaikokojin) will not get anywhere near price negotiating that is available (market here for used porsche is like usa way down).
anyway when you hit town send me a mail, we can get together for a beer...i'm in moto-azabu & you are likely landing somewhere close within minato-ku.
cheers
