Short ratio tranny results

The 146 I posted above is at 6,500rpm with 25' tires...I think 153 is more realistic. This is also with a 1.04 fifth gear ratio; one could just as easily go to a 1.00.
As we are taking Claudia up to ca. 360hp next year, I spoke with Steve about the gears. He tells me no problem with the stock gear sets - as long as they stay cool enough (we will be installing tranny oil cooling in the car when we get to the next phase).
Of course there are trade offs with any mod - gearing included, but I am so very satisfied and happy with this, I really tend to pimp it. Weiner does also.
At first, I wondered, but find that with the torque we all have aval, a short shift is tremendously successful (as opposed to running all the way up to redline) in many situations...as the short rpm drop keeps me up in the curve. (edit to add: This also really helps relax the engine on hot days)

Your saying everything I want to hear. I actually have two other friends considering the same upgrade. Need something to help when those Gt3's over brake and leave me in the dead zone. I also like the fact that you can short shift and not put so much wear on the engine.

Where'd the times actually shake out? Took a quick look at the club race results, and it seems the bogey time for a modified 964/993 car at full weight should be sub-2:00. Saw a couple of 993s listed in G Stock that were actually behind the SC that was a pole car, and an outlier 964 that was ~8 seconds off pole.

Hi Kai: OFF TOPIC
How will you take Claudia to 360 hp?
I am also considering an engine upgrade for next year, my idea is to take my car to 9M in the UK and go for the phase 1 kit @ 330 hp.
Bye

I do not compare my times with anyone (in a competetive manner) beyond my need for data points; that having been said, I am not at all discouraged with 2:11s. After a 25 year break, I've been back on track for 14 days now and HPR is brandy new to me. I was most certainly not there to win a DE to which I'd been invited.
The above is meant to be a statement about the capabilities of the transmission in its first real world comparison.

This is a facinating topic and very tempting - since engine and tranny will be out soon for all kinds of work.
Can gear-wise please comment on this viability for a (near) stock street-only C2? Driven hard to be sure - but all just around-town blasting.
Would the ratios spec'd above work for the street? If so - to what effect?
And ball park cost for this mod? I assume it involves shipping your tranny somewhere?
Thansk!

RK,
My interpretation is that this IS a good set up for the street. In another thread, I read something about $600 per gear set. But not sure if this was parts only or parts & labour. You know Canadians will pay through the nose for this, so don't use it as a proxy. I'm happy to check with my new mechanic though.
I've also found a similar thread on C4 re-gearing - which as you know is more pertinant to moi.
Cheers,

Ken, mid pack times (in Group 2) were right around 2:09 to 2:10. Some faster cars were extremely well driven by locals.

ps. Stig, your price is about 40% short of what these things cost.

@Matt - oops my bad. The thread in question was a few years old, so I'm not surprised. And to be fair, you get what you pay for. Happy to pay a hefty premium if I can hassle 997s around the track.
