Default Art of the Automobile in PDX

As promised, here is a set of photos from today's shoot at the art museum. I paid for a pass to shoot with a tripod/flash before the museum opened this (Sunday) morning. Apparently just last night Jay Leno held court at the exhibit, with thousands of people in attendance... I missed it.

Here are a couple to whet your appetite... The Sting Ray shot below is my favorite shot of the day... The Pierce Arrow is neat too, but I lavished a lot of love on the Corvette... it was beyond neato.

For Hawk and the other camera dorks, I landed a 17-40L and shot with that most of the day, with a few attempts with the 24-70, but the cars were so long it really took a wide lens. I also fooled around with a really white/bright flashlight, and it pulled out some details in the Ferrari, Tucker and Bugatti.

The Tucker looks like either a G-man, or a Government office building alongside these other cars... really dowdy and 'official' looking.

Fantastic pics!

I always pictured a Bentley owner, with stiff upper lip, back upright and leaning into the wind. The Bugatti owner instead will be leaning back, chilled and with a girl around his arm

Pretty much the truth... That, or the brother to that Bentley (same collector owns both) was the car that raced the trains from southern France to London. The owner made a bet he could be in his club having cocktails before the train arrived...He of course won... gave birth to all those crazy races on Top Gear...

REALLY well done, Tom.

I too, am a sucker for that Larry Shinoda designed Sting Ray; what a classic shape.
