I wouldn't be supprised if something VW or AUDI could be used instead of the original blower motor. When I had mine out, I took them around to the local rebuild shops (3 off) and all said, "They look like a VW part". Made me think.

I got one laying around in my garage. Came off my 92 engine at 30k or so miles.

Is that the motor for the front blower(s) in the climate control unit, or for the rear engine blower? It looks like the engine blower motor, which I have seen available at Vertex and others (and is a good value compared to the cost of a complete OEM unit).
It would be great news if it is indeed the motor for the front blowers.

It is indeed. I changed my left one and it is just fine. Only the propeller need to be reused.
This is the one from the engine compartment ;-)

Great info! I think all three of mine are just begining to "tweet" so a sensible price replacement is just what the doctor order.

Rennlist really is a great place isn't it?!

I'm sure that there are loads of parts like that which are just crazy expensive just because they're for a Porsche, but the same parts used elsewhere are much cheaper.

You should read the entire thread I referred to above. The bearings are sintered (I didn't even know what that meant when I first read it), and they are difficult to lubricate. The thread gives some suggestions how to lubricate them, and some who tried achieved some success in quietening their fans.

My used replacement just fell through... My Deutsch skills are terrible at best, but it looks like the ebay ad listed above only ships within der Paterland?

Alta- I sprayed both bearing areas very generously with lubricating oil (not a penetrating oil) and the chirping is louder than ever. Not sure about any options outside of replacement.

If anyone has a left-side motor lying around, I'd be happy to put it to good use.

The big question is - is there a source for this Bosch part number here in the US?

They will ship worlwide, but you will probably need to email them for a price.

If you download the Google Tool Bar it includes a free language translator, that will convert the eBay page to English...
