+1 especially with a rebuild. I think folks are letting cars go too cheap. When I first was looking to buy, a few RL regulars said these are $25K cars one way or the other. I got mine cheap and it's ended up costing that much to get it sorted (plus a lot of my sweat equity as well).

I agree. For a while there, I felt like I was being completely unreasonable with the price. But I have invested well over 10k into this car. If you buy a 964 cheap, get ready to have some serious downtime and serious expenses.
Let me put it like this: When you fork out the money to buy quality, you only cry once ...

I too am reacting to the "have cash or don't come out" approach. Might be ok for CL - but not for RL.
I'm seaching for a Ferrari - 348 or 355 if I can stretch to it. Have YET to drive one - since all owners are "cash in hand or don't bother coming". I HAVE cash in hand - but I'm not taking it to meet some guy I don't know somewhere I've never been!
And frankly - if the car I'm going to see drives well - I would be that much more inclined to move forward.
Anyway - I'd suggest that's too strong a line for this crowd - and you can just decided on a case-by-case basis as you vet buyers - by email or phone - as to whether they're okay to actually drive the car.
Heck - on the OTHER end of the scale - the guy I bought my 964 from GAVE IT TO ME - for a week - let me take it out for a PPI and generally fall in love with the notion of it sitting in my garage. A trusting, kind gentleman who elegantly closed the sale. ; )

Oh - no worries! I just think this is a kinder, gentler audience. ; )
I found my 964 on CL - but many CL transactions can be challenging - so I understand the approach - just offering one guy's insight into my reaction to it.
As someone else said - the eventual buyer might buy it to flip it and not even care to drive it at all!
In any case - wrong colour combo (and brand at the moment! ; ) ) for me - but best of luck with the sale - it's gorgeous!

I couldn't agree with you more. I've received much good advice and help from folks on RL, I thank you all. I went ahead and took out that line

paulie,
If it helps I looked at a few 964's which were average (condition and price) but ended up paying slightly over the odds for a week-looked after example - and dont regret it for a second. if you can I would recommend holding out for the right buyer who will happily pay the asking price if the car is as good as it appears (not only is yours clearly well taken care of it's also got a few great mods)
Good luck with sale!

Its not like I am desperate to get rid of it, quite the opposite actually. But I am also not an unreasonable person. If someone would like to come out and make an offer, I would be happy to consider it. Worst case scenario, I'll just say no ..

There is still so much money in the bay area, I wouldn't be surprised if some dot com 28 year old showed up in his Tesla with a briefcase full of cash. Have you advertised in San Jose / Palo Alto / Mountain View?

I have indeed. I figure its just a matter of time before someone shows interest. I have been contacted by people from Craigslist, but no followup after I gave them my number. Good ol' CL

Nice rig...
I'm glad to see prices trending back up for 964's lately. They've been devalued too long IMO. $25K is well into 993 territory. If I'm looking at a $25K 964, I wanna see at least "everything works", "original paint", or "low miles"... pick one. Bonus points for the rebuild, and you have some nice mods. Unfortunately the significant value of a rebuild doesn't seem to register in most potential buyers eyes. They don't realize how much that's worth, especially in these cars. The mods, while valuable, have to appeal to a certain buyer to be a drawing card.
I'd say hey, put it up and see what happens at $25K - you're in a hotter-than-average market area - but if you don't get some serious play, I'd consider fixing the things that need to be fixed first. Personally, I hope you get it. The higher your selling price, the more mine is worth. GLWS!

I look at it like this: The car is offered up at 25k, if its going to cost you 1k to fix the ABS, fine, I'll shoot down in price. I'm accepting all offers.
