Default Best place to drive in europe

Hi everyone, I am planning to take a week off in August and a few friends want to do a road trip to an areas and spend a week "sight seeing" extremely quickly through the local area.

I have done a number of road trips through Germany and Hungary etc but I am looking to find the best spot, not tooo far from the UK, to get to and enjoy that one area.

I saw a recent video from a rennlist member's trip to Alberg which looked fantastic.

Any ideas welcome.

Tom

I had an issue of EVO about 8-10 months ago where they reviewed the best driving roads in and around Europe. While many might be too far for your trip, some roads might just be worth it....
I can try and find the issue but I expect searching the EVO website would be a good start.

For some of the most spectacular scenery and driving, you cannot beat a drive through the mountain "passes" of Switzerland!

In no particular order :

Mount Ventoux,
The Col de Turini,
The Route Napoloen,
Gorge Du Tarn,
Gorge Du Verdon (see the images below, and also used for the Top Gear video of Clarkson in an RS4 "racing" the speed climbers/base jumpers)

Would only do Stelvio to Bormio off season (and without the snow) or early in the morning. Its too popular these day i understand since TG.

Splugen Pass? San Benardino Pass? Both are great

Or try here http://www.ultimatedrives.net/routes/index.php

Really? I avoid Switzerland like the plague when it comes to driving...

Not too far from the UK with only 1 week I would go with the route Napoleon or Pyrenees or both.

I would prefere timmelsjoch instead of stelvio. The Road is not so narrow and it is more drivable. Then sleeping in Bozen (for example Parkhotel laurin ) and after that going to sella ronda...

The day after that, going to the Region of Bologna and do a factory Trip at the ducati homebase, driving to maranello to the Ferrari museum or to St. Agatha to lambo...

I will take my car on some of those roads one day.
Best trip I have taken was from north west Spain to North east through mountain roads on the motorbike.

In fact forget best trip best anything. Will also take the car there when the current money pits leave home
