bolts behind stereo and hvac ccu have been removed. 3 bolts, 1 screw. there's another bolt back there, but lower down. is that part of the airbox too?

are there any bolts to the airbox from under the car?

Thanks

how does this thing actually come out ? does it separate from the ducting that's in the wheel well connecting to the heater hoses? or all together? the cowl gasket looks tight too. is there a trick lever method to get the air box out ? does anything else need to be released ? thanks in advance folks.

that 4th bolt behind the stereo doesnt look like it's linked to the airbox.

it was quick progress after that. Clips were many but easy. Screws with allen heads were plenty and also easy. the pair of screws in each blower motor need to come off.

soon, we met the enemy

ugh, yuck !!

then problem again. really not my day today

this beautiful clean Griffiths Kuehl 964/993 evaporator has those two side pylon things, that mean the thing doesn't drop in. The expansion valve also doesnt seat properly on the little subtray in the front.

I didnt get the memo. did i get a wrong model? i have a 1991 964. Or a mistake in shipping ? or something else ? Or do i need to cut the air box to fit the Kuehl ?

btw, it took me 8 hours to get to where everything was apart and the new evaporator was ready to go in.

race cars should not have the airbox, complete, it must be 15 pounds or so. just the evap alone, that maybe 3 or 4 pounds, depending, are you including all that mildew and algae that was growing on mine ? that thing was green.

It looks like Griffiths updated their design. It also looks like you got the correct one based on the photo from their website. Are you sure it won't fit and you have it seated correctly? Have you taken measurements of the original and Griffiths units?

you know what, i emailed griffiths on a Saturday night a got a response. how about that !

says it's the same model they've made for years and that is does need the box to be given a little persuasion(spread) to take the serpentines left and right manifold.

will try that tomorrow.
