Default Deceleration Jumping / Jerkiness

I dont recall my C4 doing this over the past almost 1 year .... am I imagining a problem, or is it a sign of the clutch going, or something else?

- accelerate to over approx 4,000rpm in say 2nd gear
- lift off accelerator
- there is a jerkiness/roughness to the engine braking for the first second or two.

ie it would be similar to the feel if you were pulsing the brake pedal for a second or two (but I am just lifting off the accelerator not touching the clutch or brake pedal).

Is this a sign the clutch is slipping?

EDIT .. i also have a noticeable mechanical type grinding vibration at less than 25mph. I assume it is not linked to the above but who knows!?

The original Freudenberg (sp?) units would fail somewhere between 20k and 70k miles. Porsche replaced many under warranty, the rest are our problem. The -02 version is the Luk DMF013. I hope I'm wrong because in a C4 you have to drop the engine/trans to replace.

regarding your
"noticeable mechanical type grinding vibration at less than 25mph"
would it also be around 2000RPM?

not really.
with the car out of gear and the clutch out, so the car is just rolling, the vibration is there ... the vibration is in sync with the car speed, so the vibration slows as the car slows .. most noticeable when out of gear and just coasting slowly and braking.

I'd first check all the cat heat shields for the vibration. Also the power steering pump fluid level. Random I know, but quick to eliminate. Keep your ears open for any clunking when changing gears.
