oil tank drain plug
Is the oil tank drain plug supposed to have a magnet on it? I just noticed today while changing my oil mine does not. Not terribly worried about it even if it is supposed to have one (how many wear components in a 964 engine are actually ferrous?) but just curious.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Both my engine and oil tank have magnetic drain plugs. Don't know whether they came as original equipment on the car. Mine don't seem to collect anything, but they could be an indicator of wear, if metal was present.

Believe only the engine plug gets the magnet and the oil tank goes without.
The only reason I can think of for such is that the oil in the tank has benefit of the oil filter in removing metal flecks.
The oil in the crankcase doesn't.
That, and the immediacy of flecks being generated in the engine... not so much of the static passages in the oil storage and cooling system.
That being said... there's not a darned thing worrisome with having a magnet on the oil tank's plug.
Leaving it 'as is' sounds good 'nuf to me.
My engine plug's magnet always gets 'furry' between oil changes.
If yours doesn't, you're living a blessed life, my man!

Same as Lonnie... magnet on engine plug; no magnet on oil tank plug.
And the 'fur' that I find on the magnet at each oil change reminds me that, like us, the lifespan of our beloved is not forever. Sigh. Alas, regular runs to redline are for quality of life!
