Default OBD1 - Picture request

Just wondering if anyone has any photos of the OBD1 connector in situ under the seat?

I've had a search through loads of old threads but can't find any pictures.

I'm interested to see exactly where it's located and what it connects or splices into - does it connect into the main engine harness leading into the ECU?

Thanks

In a 964 the connector is located on the right near the door under a black round plastic cover, its a 19 pin female.

Hi rarebear, thanks for the reply - Do you know exactly where the OBD1 connects into the harness?

I was also trying to figure out if all 964's had OBD1 connectors fitted as standard?

I do not know where the OBD cable connects into the harness, but I think that's not relevant as long as the OBD link works.
afaik all 964's had OBD as standard, correct e if I am wrog

What information can be garnished off the plug? Can it find problems before they are felt in the seat of their pants? Any OBD-1 urban legends/success stories about engines saved because of a random diagnostic check or no-start symptoms solved by a simple diagnostic run??

Just curious.

I've seen those obd1 to obd2 connectors on ebay...do they work? Could I read my car with any obd2 compatible code reader with that adapter cable?

Don't believe that would work. A few very smart people here on RL put 100s of hours building circuit boards needed to communicate with the 964. They certainly would have gone the dual connector route if it would have worked.

Thanks for all the replies chaps

I've looked into it a little bit and I don't think the OBD1 to OBD2 connector that you can buy from fleabay works for an application like this (otherwise we'd all be doing it!)

My 964 loom doesn't have an OBD1 connector but it has been chopped around a bit in the past!!
I do have an OBD1 connector (see photo below) which is why I wanted to see the under-seat view and exactly where it connects to the loom.

Anyone got a good under-seat photo to help me out?

It does work for some early OBD1 vehicles if the reader can pick up and decode the unit. As far as I know it do not, however, work for a Porsche. The OBDII scan too wont read the Porsche DME.

And there is some 1991 VIN break where it switched over.

I have a 91 and it does not work mine is too early for the up dated OBDI

The OBD1 isn't under the seat. It is just inside the right door under the dashboard/glovebox, can you try to find the harness from there first?

Aha, thanks Laker. I always thought it was under the seat!

Drawn a blank on the wiring though. As I said, the loom has been chopped around a bit. Here's a couple of pics before it was fitted.
