Hot start relay kit on 964
I am having some starter issues, car starts fine when cold but sometimes the starter fails to catch after car is driven
A hot start relay kit was recommended and I have it but wiring is different that the instructions show so I will have to change some connectors (spade lug to an O connector)
Is the hot start relay add on appropriate for a 964 series ?

I just need a "patch" for now until I can give all the systems a proper look/see
As long as the relay isnt going to screw the electrical system I will use it as a temp fix

Thanks, thats what I would not admit to myself
After all the work I have done I think I am going to let a local shop do this one, I need to let all the cuts on my hands heal

I ended up doing it myself, remanufactured Bosch starter motor $ 272.00 , and about 4 hours of my time, well worth it.

Found Bosch Starter New for $275.00 will probably get it and have it on hand....waiting for wife to get back so I can get some better terminal ends for the hot start relay install , have thoroughly cleaned and polished all contact points, replaced ground strap, only thing I havent messed with (yet) is the contacts on the ignition switch

You can quite easily give it a try yourself without resorting to most the tricks mentioned, although loosening the driveshaft on the transmission side is a must.
Be prepared to use new allen bolts, heater hose and hose clamps on reassembly......even in case you don't succeed in removing the starter in the end it makes all the surrounding work so much easier for your garage to do (on a proper lift) when all parts are new.
I cut a 10mm swivelhead allen key to the correct length and used a ratchet type spanner for maximum freedom of movement. Be very careful to fully seat the allen key as to not damage the starter motor nut, when the nut has previously been correctly torqued and not rusted on its thread you should be able to get it out this way.
If not the only way is indeed to start lowering engine/transmission to give enough clearance tu put some proper torque to it. Unfortunately this was the case on my car when it got stranded and I was trying to change the starter outside in the street with temps around freezing.....brrrrrr;-)
Upon reassembly this might be a handy piece:

This makes it much easier to get the nut back on the thread when working blind and makes future work on your starter motor a breeze.....
