1993 C2 Cab. It has been sitting for a month or so on a tender in the garage. It is due brakes pads and rotors and I have them to replace, but otherwise in tip top shape. I have owned this car since new and I have owned other 911s, so I am not a stranger to these cars.
Anyway, took it for a spin today to enjoy the weather. After about 30 minutes I heard a beeping sound that, at first, I thought to be my cell phone receiving a text. Thought nothing of it. Then it started to do it again and got louder. It would come and go until finally it became constant. It seems to be coming from under the steering column. It is not the same alarm you hear at start up key turn. I have never heard this sound before.
Got home and broke out the manual as well as the 964 Bible. I cannot figure out what it is. There are no warning lights, the center console warning kill switch does not stop it. Brakes work fine. Best I can figure according to the literature is some type of brake booster alarm? Anyone ever gotten this noise or know any secrets? thanks in advance
Do all of your dash warning lights work? Could you have one out that would be associated with an warning beep? Normally, the "!" light comes one when the beep noise happens. Was this light on? You didn't mention it.
All system lights on the dash and center console are operational, and there is no warning light illuminated when the noise begins. The warning kill switch in the center does not quiet the alarm. One of the guys over on the Ferrari board mentioned a brake pressure alarm of some sort. Maybe when I install the new pads and rotors next weekend it will correct itself?
Sometimes this comes on when ABS sensor failure or sumthing like that the buzzer sounds under the dash. Maybe one of your bulbs in the dashes faulty and not lighting up with anti lock warning or other warning. The beeps are normally associated with warning of some sorts. I would unplug a ABS sensor on one of the wheel sensors and drive car & see if it is the same type of beep you hear ? Plus if abs lights comes on as well. Just to check your warning system is working properly
Thanks guys, I will check it out perhaps this weekend. My mechanic owes me a favor and is going to swing by the house as well. I will report back what I found out for future reference.
