Default AC diagnose

I had a very big PIA issue with the alt belts on my car, so much so I took off the AC belt so I could replace the alt belt in the dark wearing a tux without getting dirty LOL, At that time the AC was working great.. Miraculously (as in I don't know why) I haven't had an issue with the alt belt in about a year, so I probably jinxed myself by putting the AC belt back on, but in any case, the clutch on the compressor won't engage. Anyone tell me where to look to find the issue? I see there's a relay for it, pretty cheap on ebay, should I just buy it and try that?
Thanks

make sure the compressor is plugged in, may have become unplugged when you removed the belt....just a thought, good luck...

+1, likely the refrigerant escaped and there is not enough pressure in the system to kick the comp on.

Cool, that would be good (I guess), don't need a Porsche expert to check that.

Nothing wrong with R12 infact it has better thermo properties than R134a

if you have R12 can you top off with R134 if it is low, or do you have to evac fully first?

You can't put R134 into an R12 system or vice versa. The fittings are different.

True, but the system can be converted to R134.
I had my converted last year for less that $150.
The evacuation of the old R12 took a long time!

His question was whether you could top off with R134A. Your conversion to R134 for less than $150 is a smokin' hot deal. Were new barrier hoses included in that price?

Sorry Richard...Snowbird seemed bummed to find out he had R12? I just wanted him to know he had that option.

There are a lot of questions (and answers) flying around this thread, to the OP and others. Everyone trying to help everyone!

Regarding my the sweet conversion cost, I have another RLer to thank for that! No hoses were changed though...system check, looonnng evac time, new *****...then ice cubes. Still working 8 months later...crossing my fingers, it's HOT already!

Freeze12 is a drop in replacement for R12...it's a mixture of refrigerants but all you need to do is suck it in on the lowside. look at freeze12,com for more info.

If converting to 134A you'll need to replace the filter/dryer, change out the tap port fittings, remove the compressor and drain what oil is there, then evacuate and refill with 134A. That's what I did on my 91 C2.
