Default CAN THESE BE REMOVED PERMANENTLY

Hi All,

Can anyone advise if the rubber seals can be removed permanently and, if so, will it cause any rattling or paint damage?

They can be removed and will cause rattles, scratches and allow more dirt to get in than without them

If you want a cheap replacement JC Whitney (NO affiliation) has Volkswagen beetle fender molding which wioll work bowever it has a round bead on it so it will stick out more than the oem (but they are nice soft rubber)

I just used some of it on my front spoiler and am thinking of using the rest on the rockers, etc

It was about 18 bucks for 25 feet

Default seals

What's the problem you have with the seals? I agree that not having them will let quite a bit of dirt get in there, especially if you drive in the rain or snow.

Your car looks identical to mine:

Thanks all. Yes I currently have seals on but they seem to have shrunken in length. There is a gap of about an inch on each side of the car.

I would like to put oem rubber back on. Does anyone know what the part/s number is and what are these things called?

Will definitely post pictures in a few days once I have a chance to shoot some.

I just ordered them from the Pelican, along with the related rocker panel clips, because the pass. side rocker panel on my car is loose and the strip flew off while driving on the express way.

thanks Vandit. Thats exactly what I needed. Did you have to remove the the side rocker panel to install this cover strip?

I still haven't installed them, so i'm not sure. Plus, my rocker panel is currently loose due to a few broken clips, so i'll have to partially remove the panel to install the new clips and install the seal in the process.

I'm not sure if it's possible to pull out the old seal and install a new seal w/o removing the panel.

From what i've read on here, the panel clips tend to break, so if the process does require even a partial removal of the panel, it may be a good idea to get some spare mounting hardware in case they break.

I doubt its possible to do properly to replace the strip without removing the panels

Its a worthwhile job to clean everything behind there once they are off anyway

You just have to remember theyre not all push fit clips

I see wide fenders! Make sure you have the correct trim lengths...the shark trim piece must be longer than the standard narrow body piece?

Get extra clips. In fact, I'd get extra orange clips too as you might find one that's rounded at bit from the panel being taken on and off before? If the orange clip (that's pressed into the car body) is rounded, then the white clip that presses into it will create a loose fit. I'd definitely order a bunch of white clips and a couple extra orange clips. It's an easy install that really cleans up the car's appearance!

Below is a picture of most of the parts laid out.

Cobias,

Assuming you mean the gaskets around the lights

89/90 cars
964 631 420 00 (L) 964 631 421 00 (R)

91 on
964 631 911 00(L) + 964 631911 913
964 631 912 00(R) + 964 631911 913

Early cars have afull gasket, late cars just have a rubber fitting at each end

The '89 & '90 cars have rubber gaskets around the turn signal/brake lights. The '91 and newer do not.

You can install the gasket on the later cars if you want to. I did on my 91 coupe. I thought it looked funny without.
