Default anyone here a "clean freak"

Got the car jacked up & looking around at all the bits under there and noticing 20 years of road grime dirt & crud. A part of me wants to scrub everything I see cleaner but man what a mess that would be & a ton of time maybe wasted.

Anyone here go out of their way to get things clean under there or do you just get whatever job done & leave the crud alone on other parts.

Just curious

I always clean while I'm in there. When I did my brakes, I took off 20 years of grime from the wheel wells, oil tank, etc. You could eat off the wheel wells now, well with very sticky food. Also had a front diff seal leak/spray 75w90 everywhere. asphalt and stones embedded on the drive shafts and steering rack lines. yuck Purple power and a 'high pressure' tip on a garden hose running hot water from the basement sink is my weapon of choice. Leave it better than you found it she is my pride and joy. I wouldn't do this every year, maybe every three. But it has been 20.

I am a bit "James May" with a small detail brush on the interior. Whenever the wheels are off i clean and polish the inside of them too. I gave up on the exhaust cleaning after a trip out in the rain, but i do clean as i go as long as it fits into the time planned for the mechanical job. Cosmetic cleaning in the corners of the luggage compartment has become my vice of late, but my last car was a show car so I'm slowly starting to let go of the whole cleaning thing...I find it therapeutic though in a strange way.

I think theres a fair few of us here who are clean freaks! But then who isn't especially when you start on one thing, and it leads to other bits! Non stop!

As Unkle says, its therapeutic!

If I had the funds&time I would likely have the dealer ship me every single replacement part (including the shell), just so that I could have the car perfectly clean and without oxidation and corrosion.

So no, you're not alone

I defo get the therapeutic feeling. iPod on, detailing products out and the wife doesnt see me for the best part of the day! My only issue is stripping off all of the lovely wax just to start the whole process again lol

A clean car is a happy car
A clean car runs smoother
A clean car is faster

This is what I tell myself after spending 5 hours on any given weekend to keep her clean, I think I am visual OCD.

Ever driven a car in the rain? Even on track, if it's wet we've got windows down. Cars don't melt. Hell, I've come back from skiing a couple of times this year to find over a foot of snow on the C4S. Wipe it away so I can see/open door, start, back out of parking space, hit the road.

I'm with Ken,

Drive em if you've got em. Don't get me wrong, I do like the visual appeal of a nicely detailed car, but for me.....it's the thrill of driving that stirs my soul

A few dittos on the above, but I do try to stay on top of brake dust...well, every now and then I do.

Oh, I'm not knocking clean if you've got the time. Was more pointing out that you can pressure wash pretty much anywhere and nothing's going to happen.

Funnyism on the clean thing. Friends of mine, way back when, did the full concours thing with an '80 924. Full concours. That's the whole car, including undercarriage judging. Mostly against trailered, fully restored 356s that never turned a wheel. (Some guys had tire condoms for rolling between the trailer and the judging spot.) They did the whole Zone 8 circuit for nearly 10 years, driving the car from Phoenix to everywhere in So Cal, then cleaning it up in the hotel parking lot. Usually Best Of Show, and always Best In Class.

I always enjoy cleaning my Porsche, little brushes on the interior cracks, leather conditioners, plastic polish ... and usually because I wipe my car down before each drive (and I drive it nearly every other day) I usually only have to use a little detail spray to keep the exterior spotless but would like to get some tips on how to clean the motor; I am sure that a pressure wash in the wrong spot could do bad things. I agree that the thrill of driving a Porsche is awesome but I would have to admit I have been in love with the looks of these cars for much longer time span than I have had the means to drive one so I am pretty partial to keeping the Porsche quite tidy.

Not really. I mean if you put the nozzle 1/2" away from things the pressure itself might do damage. I couldn't even count the number of customer cars I've cleaned up before working on them.
