I never noticed that the power windows work without the ignition on...Is this normal or do I have a relay issue or something else (alarm light flashes in lock button , power lock system and alarm are not functioning and sometimes I cannot lock the drivers door unless it is closed )

Yes, you should be able to roll up the window and close the sunroof after shutting off the car until the door is opened and then closed. I beleive there is also a timer on it. I am not sure you can lock the driver door with it open.

The windows operate all the time hours after shutting car off , even after getting out and shutting door, also about half the time I can lock the door with it open

Sunroof is not an issue ...I have a Targa

well oh, okay on a coupe the roof is like the windows you can close after turning off the car until you open and close the door. So... are you door switches okay?

Do you have an after market alarm? Perhaps the install has changed the functionality of the door/window relationships?

IIRC, it was a feature that you could not lock the driver door when it was open, to prevent you from locking your keys inside the car. As I recal without using the key you would have to close the driver door and locking from the passenger side and then close the passenger side door.

It would seem you have electrical gremlins.

And you can have the key out of the ignition, and still be able to roll the window up and close the sunroof, until you've opened and closed the door.

I found out simliarly to you while working on the sunroof and just reaching in the car and turning on and off the ignition and then leaving it without ever opening the door, which killed the battery.

I am going to change out the alarm/door lock control

Cant lock door with key , it does nothing when I turn the key

I have NO battery drain issue either

Based on that part of your question, you might if the car sits long enough? I didn't notice it either for a long time, until the car sat for a while...
Or, someone else reading might....regardless, good luck chasing the problem down.

A little bonus I discovered ( which may not be standard ) is that when I step out of the car, close the door with anything open - windows, sunroof they automatically close upon arming the alarm.

Driver window first, passenger widow then sunroof.

And if I disarm the alarm during the procedure the openings stop closing, meaning I can leave a window or the sunroof partially/ fully open in the summer!

Is this standard?

It's possible. I know that is how VW works, but I never actually tried it on my Porsche.

Not standard as far as I know, but is offered as part of say a Hamilton and Palmer upgrade, If memory serves about £150 when I had my alarm work done.

I removed the door switch, gave it a cleaning in GC Electronic cleaner (no affiliation) and now the always on power window issue is solved, it appears the system "reads" the interior light

Still have the auto door lock /alarm issue, will replace module this weekend...weather and attitude permitting
