ok I posted in a different thread but am wondering if anyone has retrofitted or modified a 997 bose speaker package to fit in a 964. it almost looks like most of it would fit right in except the subwoofer rear deck box and even that might fit with a little bit of nipping and trimming here and there. I think the sound quality would be much better than stock and this might be an option for some (I'm thinking about it too...LOL)
my CD is a halfway nice one but I've heard better sound out of my grandma's AM radio. this is on my list definately. whats the general consensus on this?

I know Bose has its share of fans but, in my experience, the 'high end' system in my 997 doesn't really sound that great. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely better than the 20 year old original speakers in my 964 but it's obvious that the R&D money spent on the 997 did't go into the stereo.
IMO, you could get better aftermarket replacement speakers for half the price.

try mounting your speakers into the solid metal of the door frame and not the floppy door card.
made a huge difference to my sound quality.

I am slowly building the system in my 964. I never thought to pull a system out of 997. When 964 came out I think the stereo system was low on the priority list, right next to the cup holders.
Find good component speakers for the front doors. Do your homework and pick what works for you.
Good rear deck speakers are hard to find in 4x6. The 5x7 speakers are a slightly different story and I don't know if they will even fit without surgical work
Get subwoofers from Rod Birch, I've heard nothing but good things about his company. He does respond to email and is very helpful when putting together a system.
Head unit - The sky is the limit. The Porsche classic radio is nearly $700 and that's not nearly as expensive as the high end Pioneer unit at $1200. I like the Porsche unit because it give me some type of Nav capability, although I'm not sure about the "look". I hoping that a fellow 964 owner will buy one and take some pictures.
Amp - There are some amps out there that will fit under the passenger seat. I have two of those, one is an Alpine and the other is a Nano NX4. One will power the speakers and the other will power the subs. Where I'm stashing the second amp is a mystery right now, most likely it will be in the trunk.
Installation is another story, based upon your mechanical skills it's either easy or hard, if you have a fat wallet you can have someone do the install for you.
