Wheels and lowering question (again)
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at the H&R & Bilstein combination which will lower my '90 by an 1 1/2 or so. After searching and reading a bazillion posts on this topic I'm more confused. The 18's that I currently have on the car have to go & am looking at a set of 17 X 7 (205/50) and 17 X 9 (255/40). Are these size wheels ideal for a lowered 964 and will they bolt on without mods of any kind?....and most important will they look the part!
Thanks gents

What offsets are the 17" wheels and how agressive of alignment will you have? I'm running Cup1s (17x7 & 17x8) with your tire sizes on both cars with H&R Greens and Bilsteins. I had to install 6.25mm spacers on the rear of the coupe. I was getting rubbing on the inner fender wells during DE events.
I'm very happy with the function, look and performance.

I run 18s on my lowered car no problem.
For the sake of stating what you may already know - the wheel diameter is not important, it's the diameter including rubber that is.
The all important question as above is the offset. Once you've lowered the car and put on the wheels that fit then a geo is the next step, if rubbing persists then you may have to do some slight modifications to the arches: Rolling the lip of the arch and possibly 'adapting' the plastic wheel arch covers and a small metal bracket... But since you aren't going that low you'd probably not have to do these last few things.
Funnily enough I've just been through all this. In case you haven't seen:

These are the tires/wheels,
Set of (4) Like Brand New Factory OEM 993 wheels and tires. Wheels are "Silver". Wheels are 17"x7 front (ET-52mm) with 205-50ZR17 and 17"x9 rear (ET-55mm) with 255-40ZR17. Tires are Brand New Pirelli Rosso's. 100% tread. Bolt pattern is 5x130mm.
This is new to me and just trying to avoid buying the wrong stuff & I know you guys have been thru this thing.

FWIW: i've just returned from my mechanic who performed a ride-height adjustment and an alignment after I installed new Bilstein HDs and H&R Green springs. The new shocks/springs lowered my car this much: fronts, 1.375"; rears, 0.875" He said while it's possible to lower the front even more, he really, really doesn't recommend it (affects handling). I like the way the car rides and drives now. It's amazing how much difference in appearance that 1.375" and 0.875" makes.
Here's the car after the shocks/springs:
