Default Bad noise, 1993 964

I was taking a drive yesterday when I started hearing a dull noise that sounded like I picked up something in my rear driver side tire. The cadence of the noise increased and decreased with speed and did not go away when in neutral or with the clutch depressed.

Within 1 mile, the noise got louder and louder. Thankfully, I was very close to home. I fully expected to see a flat tire when I got out of the car, that is exactly what it sounded like.

When I got out of the car, no flat tire, nothing visiblly stuck in the tires.

Anybody got any ideas on what it could be, I think I need to hire a flatbed to get the car to my shop, but wanted some ideas from this group.

Thanks

+2 on checking the CVs. I would also check the torque on the lug nuts to make sure they are tight.

Hopefully just one of the boots on the CV's ripped due to old age and is beating against something - perhaps transmission. Either way - if it is a CV or the boot, a rebuild is in order.

hope its simple!!

Happy Ending and good news. It was a simple fix, lug nut torque. Thanks to all for your comments, looks like I dodged a bullet this time, thank again.

Now spend some of that money you "saved" on a RL membership; best $18 you'll ever spend

Be careful to check that you did not damage the lug nut seats on your wheel when it was loose. And, I have heard of broken wheel studs on the track when the lugs were not fully torqued.
Perhaps some of the more knowledgeable/experienced folks can comment on this risk.

I call B.S.

This place has cost me not only the membership fee, but a veritable fortune in mods to an otherwise perfect car.

Gotta love it...

RSA Sam - I have some extra studs if you need them. I installed longer studs on my coupe and have the originals. PM me if you want them.

I used to have only one Porsche when I became a member. It's a slippery slope which ends up in a dead fall.
