Default Oil Change Question

So I keep reading where the motor needs to be warmed so the thermostat opens before draining oil. Can the oil be drained if it's cold. I have the car on jacks doing the bearings, brakes and CV's, wondering if oil wil completely drain while it's on jacks, COLD.

You want the thermostat to be open so you can drain more of the oil out of the front cooler circuit.

You're not confusing this with needing the thermostat to open before CHECKING the oil level, are you?

Getting the oil warm or hot will enable it to drain more easily, and you'll get slightly more out of it if the thermostat is open.

I would wait til you get her rolling and take a good drive to get the oil hot. Don't idle on the jacks....
You want the oil hot and flowing to collect more dirt and whatever in suspension.
Hot makes the thermo open and drain more than you can get when cold

I just did a "cold" drain got about 7 quarts out (it was low due to leaks)
I change it every 3/4 thousand and figured it might as well get done while it sat..let it drain for a few days while I did other mechanical work..including a few new oil hoses...discovered #6 plug wire had a worn spot which went to the core of the wire...could not see it when wire was installed and had so much
christmas tree effect going didnt see the sparks it must have thrown
