Default G-Pipe

All,

Did a search, can't find the differences in "short" vs. "long" g-pipe?

Is there any extra hardware I'll need to install a long one?

I know this is cheap - but any opinions on OBX would be helpful as well.

Thanks!

There's a thread on here somewhere. Search for "swan neck" or "J pipe" - I think thats how the longer version was referred to. Good luck.

that one uses the existing mounts for the muffler while the short one just hangs there with no solid connection.

Thats more than cheap.

Assuming the dealer is legit, you couldnt go wrong, theres not much you can do wrong with a short piece of bent tube!

Went through this last year the short one just hangs, the long neck uses the original mounting point, also the long neck being longer makes the fumes flow closer to Porsche's original design.... in terms of noise: negligible.

I personally went with the long neck for the above reasons.

I agree with Freedman, it looks the same as mine and that is a very good price if it is.

I just bought one, can't beat that price even with a $45.00 shipping charge to Canada.

Since it hasn't been mentioned so far in this thread and I think it's part of the original question but the long pipe is to be used when you already have the primary bypass...it's extra length is to help maintain more back pressure. The short g-pipe is to be used when the primary muffler is still in place.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this!

The FVD website says exactly that, though I dont think Ive seen it elsewhere

Though there's no reason not to use the long/swan neck on its own AFAIK

I had the long pipe on for one day, as mentioned it's easy fit as it uses the existing mounts. I didn't change the primary when I did it. I thought the new sound was too much like a modified WRX at low rev's so the pipe came off and it now sits in my shed........

Default Short G pipe is most likely a Dansk unit.

I bought the short G pipe from FVD Brombacher. It appears to be the least cost new item @ $140 plus shipping. Turns out it is a Dansk unit. Sounds great, fits great, an excellent inexpensive mod for the 964.

http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/pro...?search=g+pipe

This is one site I found I will pick between the two not really looking for performance since the gain will be small at best just going for a better sound. osmatt I am interested in your pipe but DWS has the first dibs on it plus shipping overseas. I am not sure of the sound diff between the two or using on or the other with a primemary still in tack. I have looked on the FVD site but could not find any info must be operator error . I have heard the changing the prime muffler is like a wet fart and the like changing the secondary, comes down to personal preff.
Any comments on just changing the what it will sound like just changing the secd pipe Thanks

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this! You are right !!!!!!

I just got off the phone with FVD and after talking and reading the note at the bottom you can still have the stock muffler Pri. and use the long G pipe my error the long pipe is used to retain back pressure if you are useing a pri bypass as well this keeps your low and mid range torque
You can use the long pipe if you have a stock primary but is not needed unless in the future you are going to use the cup pipe then you already have the new G pipe..

Bypass pipe long 964/965 (Replace the end muffler) 170 111 045 L $270.36

Secondary muffler bypass pipe for 964 C2/C4/RS America 1989-1994 and 965 Turbo

- + 5 crank hp & + 4 crank torque Gain
- 2 ½” (63.5 mm) diameter tubing (reduces thermal stress)
- 25 lbs weight savings (only weigh's 6 lbs.)
- T 316 stainless steel for improved durability over T 304

- Intoxicating growl at idle, partial throttle and wide open throttle

Replaces the secondary (side) muffler, reduces exhaust back pressure and produces an incredible sound.

**Note: Use this only if you are NOT running the center muffler This longer shaped U will allow you to keep enough back pressure in the system so that you don’t loose low and mid range torque.

Car Type Fit for:
Mod. 965 Turbo Turbo 3.6 (93-94) / Turbo 3.3 (91-92)
Mod. 964 CUP-RACE (90-93) / Turbo-Look (91-94) / RS (92-92) /
C4 (89-94) / C2 (90-94)

FWIW, running a cat, primary bypass and long g-pipe is pretty loud. I ran it for a while last year and thought it was a little over the top for every day use (although WOT is awesome).

I went to a cat bypass, primary bypass and secondary and it ended up being the right sound for me (louder than than just a primary bypass but not as loud as the primary bypass / long g-pipe combo).
