964 upgrade

From a standard engine you have some work to do to make 350Hp. For starters;
1. Lightweight Flywheel (LWFW) + RS Clutch
2. Steve Wing Chip
3. Header, exhaust system + cat bypass
4. Loose enough weight and bring total weight down to approx. 2,750lbs.
5. Lighter wheels
Not HP related, but probably needed for better handling;
1. Coilovers for superior handling and adjustment
2. Weltmeister adjustable camber plates
I'm sure others will add their suggestions but the problem with that list is your budget of US$ 7K- 10K will not cover all that's listed, especially if you have to pay for installation.

You could go with a "NINEMEISTER" Motec kit. Do a search on Ninemeister and also on Geoffrey Ring CLICK HERE they can get you to around 320-330 HP for around $10 000.

Let's be realistic guys. To push our engine to 350hp from standard requires allot of $$$. The budget listed at US$ 7K-10K might get allot done but not 350hp. I personally went with a 3.8L engine, transmission gearing, LWFW, Chip, complete exhaust system, cat bypass, wheels, and weighed in at 2,950lbs. (with driver) and still cannot reach the 350hp bracket. That equals more than his stated budget.
See your 964 and get a GTR, it would better meet your intended usgae.

Got off the phone with a friend of mine having a PRC (Porsche Racing Club, our Northern California series) car built for the GTL (GT, Limited prep) class. Massaged 3.6L, but to keep things from getting out of hand the rules keep the exhaust choked down to 1 5/8" and the stock 964/non-Varioram 993 intake. (Limitations you wouldn't have making a street rod.) Budget is $15K+ using an aftermarket engine management system, and an ex-pro racer and premier engine/car builder is doing the project. Expectation is crank 335HP.
Compare that with the $30K engine build my faux 993RS had done by the previous owner. 315HP @ crank.
Bottom line, no free/reduced price lunch on these engines.

all you have to do is one simple step...
Add racing decals
Add lots of them
they are about 5hp each so stick them everywhere, interior counts too.

Nice Çar....
Okay, for the money you have, if you can wrench it yourself, bolt on a TPC supercharger (do a search). Plenty of discussion on the topic. This is the quickest way to get horsepower but I can't vouch for longevity, especially if you have a heavy foot 100% of the time.

Quite simply, with that budget and the HP you are after, dicking around with exhausts and chips will not get you the grunt you want. 300HP, no problems but above that and staying NA will cost BIG $$$.
It is interesting everyone is saying GTR.
I recently raced in a series with several classes. My class was classified as standard class which effectively means the car can be registered for road use. In my sub class was all sorts of cars rated at 3-4.5litre capacity which includes WRX's, Lotus Exige (supercharged), most turboed 2-2.5l Jap imports and others and I won this class in my 964 with simple suspension mods, chip, intake etc and around 280HP.
In overall standard class which is road registerable with any size engine, I came second, just behind a very handy driver in a current model GTR.
The point being that a well sorted 964 is a very quick little car and especially on the track or on a windy mountain road/targa stage.
If you want to just go mental fast, get an early GTR (R32), with a fully built 1000HP engine and away you go. I'd take an early GTR over current any day as the current GTR is just too bloody heavy to be a true sports car. A fantastic and immensely capable GT sure, but not a sports car. I do believe the current 2011 update for the GTR has returned a lot of the 'feel' however... If only they'd drop 400kg out of it.

I am looking to add twin turbos to my 1993 964, so I think there are options to address your need. Just do some reading here and other related sites. Check out the below site
