Should have kept the Nova if you want to go straight fast. I don't think 7-10k would be enough money to make the Porsche quicker in a straight line. I do think the Porsche would out-handle both the RX-7 and the Nova on curvy roads...correct me if I'm wrong.
As for the RX-7, the Porsche has more personality in its gear shift **** than the RX-7 does in the whole car...I'm just sayin'...

You seem to have the wrong car for your aspirations. How could you compare a Porsche 911(964) with a Mazda RX-7 and seek any similarities? How could you also then compare it to a Chevy Nova built for straight line speed. These 964's are good cars in the twisties, descent straight line speed and good handling (made better with $$$) but I think you have the wrong car for your needs. Go buy the GTR it's all that...

August, is your desire primarily to focus on straight line acceleration? Or do you want both that and great handling? If the former, you probably ought to sell the 964. If the later, you might also want to sell the 964 and pick up either a 964 Turbo or 993 Turbo. Also consider the 996 Turbo.

Have you done a leak down test on the cylinders? If she's as sluggish as you say, you may not have the HP/Torque that you think.... there maybe something else going on. CM

O.K. let's stay on topic -
What modifications have been done already? (headers, exhaust system, cat bypass, chip, air intake modification, removed excess weight, lighter wheels, etc.) If you state what has been done, I'm sure the board will have many suggestions for you to spend your money.

Probably no upgrades within 10K but one of these might be the ticket

Ok, back on topic... in my humble opinion, the best bang for the buck on these cars is a LWFW, chip, and header exhaust, so that would be the first things I'd tackle. After that, maybe cams, then gearing?
Don't forget, losing weight off the car is essentially free horsepower... if it's cold you'll want to retain heat, but a cup heater bypass gives enough heat, so you could lose the blower and the A/C. Lightweight wheels etc... it all adds up.
