Default blow out

Had my passenger side rear tire blow out going 80 on a major hwy early this morning Scary. Luckily there was almost no one on the road so I didn't hit, or get hit by anyone else. I spun around alot, from side to side of the entire hwy, but managed to get it under control and avoid smashing into the side walls. Sort of amazing actually. Thought i was going to flip, but didnt'. Anyhow, I'm not sure if I pushed the clutch in the entire time. I'll see if the car starts up later today after the tow to the shop. Anyone spin their engine and because of not pushing in the clutch? What can be damaged? Also, anyone want to sell a cup II wheel? lol Mine is probably shot.

Good thing you survived - I've seen people not handle a blow out and end up out of control and the results were not pretty.

Any other pertinent data, type or manufacture tire, age of tires, tire pressure - pictures?

Tires were old, but in fantastic shape. Dunlops. I'm thinking that since it was brutally cold, that the summer tires were brittle and when I hit a pot hole it cracked them and later down the road the tire just gave out and blew on me. I'll post my sad pictures and scuff front fender later today

Glad you and the car ar OK. Tires older than 6 years should be replaced even though they may have plenty of tread left. The cord in the carcass weakens with age.

If I'm not mistaken, the engine should be fine if you didn't end up backwards for all that contorting with the clutch out.

def was backwards several times, clutch in yes...but I can't be 100% sure it was in the whole time. This was my first high speed blow out so I was out of sorts. Did the best I could though. Car starts seemly fine, but the exhaust took a hit somewhere by the ripped off tire and it's making a loud noise. Hopefully my insurance company doesn't nickel and dime me for the entire repairs.
