I couldn't believe how much better my car started with new coil. Instantly.

FYI- make sure you do your homework and math before you decide to make your own wires. I was running hard down that road until I added up wire (178), M3 connectors (70), ends (20+/ea), cutters (50+), a crimper (Beru 300+, suitable sub 100+), shipping and, more importantly, my time. Assuming someone wants to do the job just as well as Beru, you"ll be bumping up to the price for a complete set.
I picked up a set earlier this year from EBS (site sponsor) for $450. Assuming you wont change wires just for S&G's they will last many many years, so $450 for something that will last for 15-20 years is pocket change with respect to these cars.

If you do decide to buy all the parts/pieces and have the time/ability to do good work you could make one for yourself and sell one set, sell the crimpers, etc. to offset the cost.

But for me, 450 just aint worth the hassle..
