Default Rare??

Looking at recent threads about 964/993 models available, I feel that 964 models in general are pretty rare.

Add in that I have a 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, and the available examples are even more rare.

Recently sourced a 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet 1/24 plastic model from Fujimi for under $20 USD - factory sealed and complete. The only model of the 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet I know to exist.

I was all set to assemble it and paint it in accord with my own 964 - (Guards Red/Tan) and it dawned on me that I might be overlooking a potential rarity here.

I searched the WWW for another example (to have in my wife's office) and was shocked to find that not only does another example not existle, but I was also unable to find another Fujimi 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet model anywhere. I searched the UK, DR, IT and everywhere else I could think of.

So, the question is: Do I assemble the model I have? Or, do I hang onto it as a potential profit?

What is the concensus here?

Cheers!

Funny that you asked... I found a kit that is 100% like my car but I bought it like 3 years ago.
I'll probably hang to it unopened until my kids are older.. right now would not last more than 2 minutes.
I don't think there is anything collectible but more on the cool factor for the owner of the real one...

Living in never-never land, it'll be worth what in a few years? - $10? $100?
phfff...
Want an investment? Buy an equity index fund.

My opine: Life's too short to leave toys wrapped.

But I do know this: you'll never know if it came with its engine tray unless you open the box.

i think you should just put the box on a shelf somewhere out of the sun. If it is extremely rare it will still hold its value while having it on display in the meantime.

+1

usually with the older kits, the box is worth more than the plastic inside. I say build the thing (or wait a few years to have a father and kids project) and enjoy it, then stash away the box and see what happens.

i think you MAY be asking the wrong market.
i think your potential big price will come from the model car guys not the porsche 964 owners.
i cannot imagine a porsche rennlist guy paying megabucks for a model car.

google for some sort of model car forum and ask.

Build it, and upgrade to magnesium cup wheels and aero mirrors. Chip it, and start looking at exhaust mods...... Have some fun with your toy.
