Default Dual-mass flywheel - how it works - animation

A friend sent me a link to a youtube video. I found it interesting to see what is inside a DMF and how it works. Not sure if this is exactly how LUK makes the 964 DMF but I'm sure its pretty close.

Edit: Anyone ever disassemble their DMF? Is it similar to this video? Part of me seems to thing that there is rubber in the 964's DMF but I can't be certain.

I wonder what benefit that spring based "dampening" effect has on the engine?

DMF is supposed to eliminate tranny noise in the 964. Not sure there is any benefit to the engine.

Probably makes engine run a little smoother.

That's the job of the flywheel. The damper portion reduces driveline noise and vibration.
