I think a lot of people will say no. There is another recent thread that shows most say use Mahle OC54.

Absolutely not!!!

I used to have a large garbage bag filled with bulged, leaking, and exploded American oil filters I removed from various 911's to show people the folly of such things.

In some cases, the engine ran out of oil due to a split filter and the driver didn't know it until it was too late. In one situation, the poor fellow needed a crank, rods and a lot more.

Use the Mahle filter and you'll be much better off.

JMHO, of course.

OK... I'm confused.

What doi you mean by winter storage filter?

I just change the oil prior to storage, run it 5 min and then shut it down. In the spring, I just drive it the season (less than 3k mi.) and change the oil again for the next storage.

Are you saying that you change the oil for storage and then change it again for the driving season? That seems like a waste.

There are several things to consider with the filter:

It's filtering ability,

The strength of the canister,

Whether or not it has an anti-drainback valve,

It's flow rate - how much oil can flow through it in a given time.

Now one or two of these parameters may be known or accessible for the Fram filter, but all of them?

The Mahle filter is known to work perfectly well for just a couple bucks more.

An oil filter is so important to any engine, but these engines in particular, why take a chance?

Cheers!
