Default 5 Steps to 964 Ownership

I'm sure for most of you, it's a different experience. But I've come to realize that my personal experience with 964 ownership has come in five (somewhat familiar) steps:

Denial - That car can't possibly have too much wrong with it. Surely it won't cost me more than another $2k - $3k to sort out. I'm on my way to cheap 911 ownership!"

Anger - WHAT?!?!?! That car has HOW MANY things wrong with it??!?! ..and it's going to cost HOW MUCH to fix?!?!?!?

Bargaining - Do we have to fix everything now? Can we only do "important" stuff now and save some things for later? Can I find cheaper parts for some of these things? Is there a payment plan for all of this?

Depression - I can't believe how much all of this is costing me. We worked so hard to build up our savings, and now...it's gone.

Acceptance - Well, we're getting this thing pretty well sorted. I suppose I could live with it. Maybe even like it...

The real question now is, will there be a step 6? ..Love? Only time will tell. But until then, I have to thank you Rennlisters for helping me get through these very difficult steps. I couldn't have done it without you.

Don't let 1 bad apple spoil the bunch, its unfortunate you've had some issues...but based on what I know and experienced with 964 ownership, your situation is not the norm. Just think of it this way, when you get past step 5, you will have a well sorted car to fall in love with.

I just laugh and make jokes about it.

someone else said it but it's true as the sky is blue.

Nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

I accepted what is was going to be before buying, and it actually hasn't turned out too bad, mainly because I am able to most things myself.

I had to spend about $1000 to get everything working and sort out the things that needed immediate attention, but I can promise you that it would have been a $5000 bill if I had someone else do it.

Everytime I reach step six it breaks and spoils the mood.

Yeah, it will always cost you 4 times more than just buying a good one to start with.

Yeah, I don't think that is such a good idea. I keep the reciepts in file but I would never add them up, any more than I would for my RC helicopters - another money black hole.

Oh BTW, buying a Porsche is buying a license to spend even more money than you ever known possible.

Yeah, the worst thing is I've skipped on 964s before for fear of this exact thing happening. But for some reason, at this time in my life (the worst, by the way), I chose to give it a whirl. Oops. Definitely the worst Pcar experience yet. But I don't blame the 964. (Well, not entirely..)

You're right, we're refocusing what this Pcar is in our life. My original goal was to buy an "inexpensive" 911 that would be a third car. But with what has happened to this car, we're (eventually) going to make it into a daily driver and sell on one of the Subies.

I'm still going to "technically" keep this car for sale, but I doubt it will ever go away because it's priced too high (for it's mileage) and I won't be flexible on the price.

It will be ironic if this is the car I keep the longest. Check back in on or around July 2015 and see!

Awe come on. It could always be worse. You could have bought a Ferrari. I just looked at a Testarossa that just had a 30K service done on it. The bill was $18k.
