Dear Porsche fans,

Does anyone know what the function is off a R12 bridge adapter ,located under dashboard?

what will happened or what function will destroy when you take the bridge adapter away ?

kind regards

I don't know what R12 does off hand but bridges are used by the factory when certain functions are not installed or enabled on a particular car. The bridge looks like a very short relay (1 cm tall).

Update: According to PET, all of the cars have the R12 bridge. Not sure what its function is. Anyone else know?

Having looked at the wiring diagram - where R12 appears as a greyed out box - it would seem to have a lot of interconnections with the lighting circuit. There are white/green supplies going to the lighting switches and to the fog lamp switch etc. etc. Could it just be a distribution point for the lighting power??

Regards

Dave

exactly, Relay 12 distributes power to all the light switches: turns off fogs when high beam is on, turns on fogs when used as daylight running lights, basically the smart box behind all lighting functions

Thanks,

But R12 bridge adapter is not a relay (I think)

I think ,in the socket where the bridge adapter is pushed , you can put a relay in for an option
which my car don't have.

You can find a picture of the bridge adapter on Dutch Porsche forum;

On the Dutch Porsche Forum nobody knows the function of the bridge adapter or which relay you can put in and what is the function of the relay ?
When you take out the bridge adapter whats happening ?
Some owners have only the socket without bridge adapter or relay in it.

I was too quick.

I have pn 92861810203 in that position which is the Warning Buzzer chime unit. Do you hear chimes when you don't fasten your seatbelt or when you leave your lights on?
Very expensive $231

Pull it out and see what happens to your lights.

But from the schematic in the pic it only connects line 4 to line 5, both of which are power lines from fuses.

Probably does nothing in your car.

I think I'll have a guinness and ponder it.

Thnx

I don't have a warningsystem for seat belts and lights on , so this relais is that option ?

When I buy such relais and I changed it with the Bridge adapter I have that option ?

I copied youre information to Dutch Porsche forum

kind regards

darn, I hate when I jump too soon.

After further testing, the chime only goes on when you open the door and your lights on on. It is a warning to you to turn your lights off. That is all.

Based upon the wiring diagrams schematic it should work the same in your car.

It goes in with printed side facing the floor.

update, the instrument circuit page says that the bridge is also used to enable the seat belt reminder, connecting pin 4 to pin 5.

And I do get a seat belt gong when I first enter the car, but once I buckle up if I unbuckle then the gong does not work.

There is a contradiction in the different wiring sheets as the lights sheet shows pin 4 and pin 5 going to fuses.

I wonder if there is a seat belt switch in your car?

I did order pn 92861810203 Warning Buzzer chime , the cost are (second hand) $40,-
When I get the Warning buzzer I will inform you whats happen.

At this moment , with bridge adapter, no gong is going on by connect and disconnect the seat belt.

Hello,

Today I got the Warning buzzer, it was not easy for me to change this with the bridge adpater
in this small area under the dashboard (my body is to tall , 2mtr and my hands are to big)
But I fixed it.

In my car the function of the warning buzzer is;
- Lights on, contact off and door open --> Buzzer rings
- Door open and contact on -->> Buzzer rings

kind regards
