Default PPI in Austin

$200 later it turns out the car had been in a rear accident and the fix job wasn't the best. They did say the car drove and handled well. This explains why the car had a "alien brake light", they must have replaced the rear panel from a cab. The spoiler motor needed replacing, needed a new clutch and the panel fit was a bit off because of the accident. Seller was asking $18900, dropped his price to $15900 a few days after I let him know what was wrong with the car. Loved the colour combo, but not willing to settle...just yet!

Looking at a new one in Kansas, trying to get some more info on the car and talk to a local shop to determine it's condition.

Probably the best $200 you ever spent...
Good luck on the one in Kansas

Just posted this message in the 993 Turbo side, but wanted your opinions as well.

Anyone know DENNIS MOORE, Master Tech. from Aristocrat Porsche in Merriam, Kansas? Looks like he has a lot of credentials and is the one who has serviced the vehicle I am interested in purchasing.

Is it recommended to have the PPI done at another mechanic than where a car has been serviced at?

I know some sellers feel that their mechanic is the best person to do the job and get insulted when asked to take the vehicle to someone else.

Any opinions? Thanks.

Yes.
Else, you're witnessing a mechanic engaged in a conflict of interest.
(Who's he going to serve? The seller who's shoveled money at him to keep this car working, and may do so again when this deal falls through? Or, you, someone who's handed him $200+, and is as likely as not to ever do business with him again.)
Of course there'll be exceptionally honest wrenches.
But how will you know... when his wrench reports back, "It's a Great car!" ?

I know some sellers feel that their mechanic is the best person to do the job and get insulted when asked to take the vehicle to someone else.
Sounds like a fair upfront test: If he (the seller) gets hurty-feelings over me (the buyer) not going to his wrench, imagine the poutey-lip he's gonna sport when I come back and report my wrench says his cam shaft seal's leaking like the Exxon Valdez?
His character flaw (vainglory pride) shouldn't be your lasting (& costly!) regret.

Business is business.
Where practical, get an independent, credible opinion.
One that you've paid for.

And good luck!
