Windshield
Correct, "older" 911 class with the associated rubber seal. Sits perfect.
I tried to call my auto glass place down the road and they can't source it. Was just going to call my local dealer.
edit: $733 from sunset, with 50-100 to ship it to me. Not including installation, of course.

Tangentially off-topic:
I've been a big fan of clear protective films for windshield (and body, too).
Cost is about the same as a windshield.
Advantage is much like a clear bra: most of the roadway 'pits' just bounce off.
Also, when it's time to replace, you aren't carving out the windshield liner and liner sealant. <--- a notorious introduction point of later (scratch-introduced) rust bubbling.
And your windshield is always brought back to 'perfect' with every film's removal.
FWIW, I'm still on my first one, applied 3+ years ago. Love the stuff!

No, I had it applied about a week after replacing my original windshield (for pitting).
Though it's a helluva an initial $$-hit, timing it that way seems like the way to do it: get your new, perfect windshield, and put that protectant film on immediately.
Knowing now what I didn't know then, I'd (now) be sorely tempted to apply the film myself.
It's not too difficult: 1) razor-scrape the glass surface, 2) wet down the glass and film with application fluid (clear Windex?), 3) position film & squeegee out the app. fluid from between film and glass.
Simple.
But you have to pay someone to do it before you get to see that done.

I found that many will quote a price but when you try to actually get the window they list it is no longer available .. I went thru three installers who all said the same thing on a quote but couldnt find a glass in stock for that price ..
Like I said its getting to be a dealor part soon unless you want chinese .

This is all interesting. I got a quote for $625 for the standard window with an antenna and tinted top band. The one without the tint at the top would be about $275 but they said they were no longer available.
I would be happy with one without tint or antenna but am afraid that it would not fit. Has anyone else tried one for the older cars?

All 911 shells are the same, its just the glass and seals/trims that are different.
So a 1980 screen will fit a 1990 with the 1980 rubber, as will a 1996 (993) screen will fit a 1990 (964) or a 1980 911. Dont retro fit an older screen and rubber into a 964 it will look odd, big bulky rubber dont suit well. An older 911 screen will fit into a 964 rubber but is to small and will cause problems.
My car has a 993 screen and rear quarters with the standard 964 hrw.
Iam intrested in this clear plastic coating for the screen, is it available in the uk?

Safelite has quality glass and some very good techs. They send their best guys to any appointment that involves a luxury, classic, or exotic car. You will get one of the most tenured techs in your market. They do not want "warranty work" that results from a bad install on anything nicer than a Mercedes because it destroys their margins.
