Project Shrek: Engine supports
After agonising for ages about which engine supports to fit, I went the RS way. Positive remarks about them coupled with the non-existence of engine support cracks , and the seemingly more comfy (less harsh?) ride swayed me towards the factory parts.
Thanks to Gert I had them in the mail this morning, and it took about 1.5 hours, most spent considering how I'll ift the car. I ended up driving up on 4 inch self made wood ramps, giving me enough clearance under the car with zero risk of support failure.
The engine ended up 1.5cms higher
A few pics, that by now everyone knows: knackered std supports and RS goodness. Yes I know it is dirty, but I am too busy driving it.

Hi George...would be interested to hear your thoughts after driving it! I've got the same mounts from the same guy waiting to go on the same car! I really hope they make as big a difference as I've heard!

I'm not quite clear how the 4 inch wood ramps help with the installation? Unless, you needed to raise the car to get under it to access the main m.m. bolt... I put a hockey puck on my floor jack and supported the engine at the crankcase center point, then removed/installed one side at a time. I though the combination of one secure motor mount and the engine supported would be secure enough?
I ask, because I'm going to switch out the bottom black pillows of my Wevo m.m. for the blue pillows. I don't want to push my luck with the install if I did it incorrectly the first time.

Matt,
I will report, but I still have a G-pipe to fit tonight. Suffice to say driving it in anger in the switchbacks is like having a cannon ball attached to a bungee cord in the rear. Throooooooooowwww.......catch! and repeat.
Jetta. diriving on 4inch ramps allowed me to lie underneath, look at the different parts and accesses, and also to (gasp) remove the undertray, which will go back on.
Lonnie, Lord farquaad is me! a tiny driver in a tarted up car. I am far from done.

replaced mine on my 1991 c2 with 993 mounts.
amazing difference - no transmission shunt anymore, no more bobbing during idle, much more stable under braking, better nvh, rear feels 100% planted all the time, no longer have a baulky 1st gear.
are your washers big enough for the mounting?????
