Default Motor mounts

How does one know when the origanal motor mounts are worn out? Can you tell while they are in the car. Adrian's book suggests that they need to come out to know? Just curious.

If you felt under the lip with mine you could feel how much sag there was around the bolt, I'd suggest if there was no evidence that they had ever been replaced then they will be shot.

I installed WEVOs last week, lordy. WHAT a difference in feel, like loosing 50 kilos off the rump. A little more buzz through the chassis but its a loud car anyways. Would recommend them.

I agree totally. Best thing I ever did was get rid of the factory mounts. I went for RS mounts from pelican parts which aren't as rigid as the Wevo but more rigid than factory mounts. They give a much firmer feel to the rear of the car, but no real extra noise. They also made the gearshift 100% better.

You can also install 993 engine mounts. They fit the 964 and are cheaper to buy. This is the path I went.

As for telling if they are shot, just do a quick search here and you will find a few threads with pictures. If you stick your head inside the engine bay and look under the mounting point, you should be able to see if they are dropped.

I posted a few pics in a thread a week ago, showing my old mounts while on the car. Like Ozmatt964 i went for the 993, not sure on what you are really looking for in your mounts, but it feels tighter and enhances the already great feedback from the rear.

Not sure how to link the entire thread but this was the first post with pics

Saying that won't any suspension bushes and or mounts replaced on a car thats over 20 years give better feel? I assume they would, I found even ARB bushes on a 4 year old car was very noticable

I just went with Wevo blacks and the difference is night and day compared to worn out mounts. i did not do the engine carrier yet, but I will over the winter. IMO, most cars still have their original mounts and changing is a no brainer.

I called Sunset Imports (no affiliation) the other day. the 993 mounts are $138 each. the WEVOs are $145 each. Not much difference in price, and Sunset beats almost everyone on price for OEM parts

Wink

Thanks for the info. I have a 94 C4 with 50K I just picked up. The mounts look like those in the link. I'll look into these options.

yeah- I think my winter project is to drop the motor, valve adjustment, motor mounts, repaint tins, and maybe the carrier. I better win the lottery
