My first thought was chains. Careful with the revs if it is. You REALLY don't want to drop a chain!
If it's chain noise, it could be a worn chain, sprocket or tensioner.

LuckyP, did you figure this out? I have the same exact problem!! Drives me nuts when at 3,500-4,000 rpm and driving by a wall, etc. Cannot hear it when reving by hand and no sound below 3,500 or above 4,000. I had chain ramps/guides replaced 2k miles ago, new dual mass flywheel, new clutch, alternator so I don't think any of those things. Any ideas???

LuckyP, after listening to the clip, it sounds more serious than a rattle to me, like a bad lifter, or spring, or valve. If it's not an obvious sheet metal rattle, I would have it checked out immediately by a pro to avoid possible (further?) damage.

I had a worn fan pulley bearing and the cooling fan was rubbing the fan shroud. You might want to remove the belts and check the bearing and alternator bearings for looseness and also the fan shroud for signs of scraping.
