Default Collector plates finally!

started the application process in April and my insurer has just confirmed collector status. It required heap of documents/ catalog of photos/ inspection/ $50 app fee.

To qualify with my insurer:
-car must be over 15yrs. old
-limited edition, global production of less than 1500
-pristine/near pristine condition & unmodified or with mods to satisfaction of insurer
-car must be accident free (as determined by direct investigation by insurance co.)
-primary driver (any permitted drivers) must be accident free for over 10yrs
-car cannot be used to work (defined casual-pleasure only)
-must be kept in locked garage or gated underground parking

what is does for me.....reduced my annual ins. premium by over 40% (now 3 digit territory!!) and have pre agreed upon valuation....means in a loss no hassle over settlement.

thanks to assistance from Porsche N.Amer, Porsche Club-valuation committee,
and Franz's WTL Register.

Lots of interest (including Euro-land)....remains for sale.

Congrats!

"Pristine, or near pristine"(?)
Oh, brother. I hear the gentle jumping of BC bureaucrats...

...empowered over their new playground over what constitutes a "near pristine" condition for your car.
("Sorry, but that rightside headlight ring has a paint chip. Come back when it's fixed... Next!")

Curious as to how you met the 'global production of less than 1500' criteria? Thanks

generally it is reported that there were 1000 WTL (werks turbo look cabs) produced of which 250 were carved out & branded as "America Roadsters".
they are somehat interesting in that (like the anniversary coupe) they were from the factory with turbo flares front & rear...but also had suspension/brakes/wheels of the turbo edition (anniversary did not)....most accurate production number seems to be 1183.

So those websites are fairly common, along with well published works by highly reputable people....perhaps best known Adrian Streather ("Porsche 964 Enthusiast's Companion"). Providing full extract from Adrian's book & background information of the book (Amazon/other sources) along with having full edition available for delivery....was starting point.
Best for more accurate information is the WTL register.

Norbert Franz has over many yrs built the registry up with some good documentation including direct communication/correspondence from Porsche.

....no have to sell.
we spent most of may/june in tokyo in preparation for relocation there planned for january and while we were considering shipping the car (ro-ro cheap & even a container is reasonable)
after spending a lot of time trying to understand the p-car marketplace....the key issues:
-964's are very popular there, but (unlike this marketplace) cabs - including speedsters & roadsters all are tips & the market expects a tip. they are viewed solely as blvd. cruisers
my car is a manual.
-our mileage (at 108,000km say 68,000mi.) while on the low side for here or euro-land is way high for the average 964 odometer reading of
around 70,000km (sub 45k mi.), in japan
-gov't has an imposed inspection system (means all cars there are in amazing condition & also means if you are an approved mechanic....fat city) known as "shak-ken"....cost of the inspection alone on an older aircoller about $1500 and if mechanic (to pass the car which is needed for re-insurance) says this seepage has to be fixed, tires need replacing etc etc you have no alternative but to fix. for us shak-ken upon arrival & every 2 yrs thereafter.

bottom line not economic for this car to be in japan and any value the car has will be cratered....better placed onshore or in euro-land.
if i can't sell it.....will thick wax it/drain it/cover it/store it away......oil lines/seals can be redone some future point if we return.

Great!

I have applied for a Collector Plate (only rear req'd.) in my State for my 1990 964 C4 Cab and have received confirmation from the state of my requested #.

The plate will take about 45 days to produce (God forbid the Convicts, who produce all the plates as part of their rehabilitation, have to work overtime...) and will read: A90 964

Cheers!

good job...do you also get a big pick up on the insurance rates (discount of +40%)? and agreed upon valuation?....would be interesting to compare requirements for this status with your insurer (mine set out in 1st posting) and likely other people from the state may be interested as have not seen a lot of noise on this issue in this forum.

gorgeous red cab you have (altho' i do prefer euro-look without ET)
