how much 134 in AC 964 ?
I think I overfilled my AC , in some books is says 850 g and the last refill some 4 years ago it states 1.1 kg.... the refill unit did not have data for the 964 so I put in 1.1 kg... it can waterblock the compressor, how can I release some 134 ?

29.5lbs???? That's more like the weight of the compressor!!!
The R134a capacity is, according to the Bentley book, 840 grams or 1.85 lbs in old money.

I reckon you'd be better to go to an a/c service place and let them measure the pressures and adjust from there.

Thanks Dave
I did the AC routine in my brothers garage with the official AC refill unit, the 964 was not in the database
of that machine so we put in 1100 g (which was on a previous bill from 2000) but the Bentley book states 840 g for R134a... the whole procedure takes about 2 hours in which the computer sucks out the oil and remaining R134a and returns that in its storage , then it prssurizes with 15 bar for 30 minutes , flushes with Nitrogen, vacumizes the system for 30 minutes and then lets in new oil and R134 its a tedious exercise ... so I have to do the whole exercise again my own fault ....

Who can recommend a good place (ideally near or close to East London) to get the A/C checked out and regassed? Normally Kwik-Fit are a no go zone, but heard they are o.k with A/C. Dont believe my car has had the conversion, although it was cold up to last year.

You should be able to tell if the conversion to R134a has been done by the access ports. The original R12 cars had black caps on the ports, the R134a ports are invariably coloured red and blue. If you still have the black caps DON'T take it to KwikFit as they won't do anything with it. You'll need to take it to someone who knows what they are doing to do the conversion. At the very least you'll need the access ports changing and, ideally, a new receiver/drier. The system has to be vacc'ed out anyway because the lubricating oil is different for R134a.
Depending on where you are you might like to give Gary a call at Autoair Conditioning - he's based just outside of Woking but WILL travel and he's pretty clued up on Porsches.

Thanks for that.
looking at my engine bay, it hasn`t had the conversion.
Is there any use in using a drop in gas like R409A?
Also any idea of approx cost to replace the ports and the receiver/drier, ie, The approx cost to carry out the conversion?
Thanks

Does anyone know how much replacement oil (ester) is needed in a bone dry system? After removing all the oil and cleaning the lines, is it just a matter of pouring the oil in the compressor and evacuating?
Thanks,
Justin
